We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nayeli a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nayeli, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’ve always known especially growing up in the Disney Channel/ Nickelodeon era with Raven Simone, Hilary Duff and Aly and Aj. I would watch the music they put out as artists and mimic their interviews on Radio Disney everyday because I wanted to be just like them. I would watch their live performances and know every step of cardio and every word because I wanted to be a star just like they were.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hi. I’m Nayeli! I’m 29 and singer/actress/songwriter from Atlanta, Ga. I’ve always been a creative spirit and I’ve always wanted to be famous, to be known for my creativity in some way.
I’ve dabbled in music for as long as I can remember. I started in band in elementary school then quickly realized it wasn’t giving what it needed to give. So I switched tracks went to chorus where I learned I could sing and it’s been history ever since.
From chorus I also did theater in high school where I starred in my school’s 1st musical as the lead in “Once on this Island”. After that I became obsessed with musical theater and even went to a performing arts college for a year in New York.
I realized that I loved the theater but I wanted to create my own music, my own path so I left.
After leaving I got into making my own original music and I’ve been traveling that road ever since!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn is that the people who know you will undyingly support you. I learned that even though your family, your friends and even your coworkers may believe in you and your dreams but they aren’t always your target audience for whatever your business is. I learned you have to go out and find your audience and that the most love and support will come from strangers!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is being able to express myself and have an outlet to share my thoughts and experiences. Also when others can relate to things I sing about because they’ve experienced something similar.
