We were lucky to catch up with Alexandra Mizgorski recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Alexandra thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I had my daughter in September of 2020; from that day forward, things were never the same for me. I had spent a large portion of my life searching for something, never fully knowing what it was I was looking for. I struggled with depression, anxiety, uncertainty in my career choice and my self worth. Once I had my daughter it was as if a switch was turned on inside of me. Suddenly, I knew what I was put on this earth to do. I was meant to be this child’s mother and nothing else in the world mattered. For my daughter’s first Christmas, my sister-in-law gifted us with matching sweatshirts that she had tie-dyed herself; I was obsessed. I wanted anything and everything I could wear to match my daughter. I was proud of my new role. I wanted to embrace it every chance I could, especially if it meant having the ability to wear matching clothing with my daughter. I found a lot of mommy/baby matching clothing online but there was always something I didn’t particularly love about the products, whether it be the style, the colors, or the quality. There were a lot of mama/mini styles but not much for a mother to match with a son or gender-neutral options. I knew I wanted more children in the future so this was something I kept in mind while doing my searches. Most of what I found was made from a blend of material instead of 100% cotton, was made using iron on vinyl, and was foreign made. No matter where I searched, I just couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for.
Then, I got the idea of making my own clothing. I wanted to do something different than all the other mommy/baby clothing businesses I saw online. I wanted American produced clothing, all made from 100% organic cotton, I wanted everything screen printed versus using iron on vinyl, and I wanted to make sure the product I was creating was of the highest quality. I did a lot of research into running a clothing line, found American manufacturers, worked with all local vendors, such as screen printers, developed a business plan, and from there Humble Habit was born.
Over the next year, I quit my full-time job as an engineer, fully devoted my time to being a mother, and spent many late nights and nap times working with manufacturers, sampling products, going through design renditions, and building this business from nothing. Although it was a lot of work, I loved every minute of it. I was able to be creative and channel my passion for motherhood, all while building something of my own. I was excited to be able to wear high quality mama gear, match with my daughter, give other mamas the ability to match with their children (whatever the gender), and I was proud of what I was creating for my family. I was finally ready to launch everything in April of 2022. My website was built and inventory was ready to be purchased. I announced a release date on Good Friday at 9:00 am. I have never been more nervous, while at the same time excited, to click a button.

Alexandra, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I initially created Humble Habit to give mothers high quality clothing to match with their children. However, as the business started to develop, it became so much more. I knew the challenges women face through the transition into motherhood. It’s not only mentally and emotionally taxing but can be very difficult to find yourself after having children and embrace the new role. I wanted to create a brand that gives mamas the ability to feel beautiful, confident, and cozy in all challenges of motherhood. I wanted to encourage and empower other mamas to embrace all motherhood has to offer through comfort and style. I wanted to give mamas the ability to show off their greatest title, while also being able to twin with their little ones. All clothing is made in America with ethically and sustainably source materials. Having sensitive skin myself, I wanted to give a product that was 100% cotton. This material is not only soft, but breathable and easy on baby’s sensitive skin. Its durable for crawling around on the floor for baby and strong to withstand little hands pulling on it for mama. The goal was to create clothing that was meant to last, yielding a product of quality over quantity, putting an end to fast fashion. Our planet is overflowing with waste; so much of that is due to fast fashion and poorly made products that fall apart after a small amount of use. Humble Habit clothing is designed and made to last. Our neutral color pallets make it easy to pass down to younger children and work in any season.
I created Humble Habit to be more than just clothing. I created Humble Habit to be a community and a brand. Humble Habit is mama owned and operated, local produced, and bringing infrastructure back to America.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
There are a lot of options out there for mommy/baby matching clothing, but I think what really sets Humble Habit apart is the quality of the clothing. Humble Habit has a lot of repeat customers. Most of our customer base have purchased several orders. Even most of our reviews left by those customers rave about the quality of the products.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I invested everything into Humble Habit from my own pocket. I knew one day I wanted to start working for myself. Even though I wasn’t quite sure what that entailed, I had been saving for years to one day use it as startup money for a business of my own. I used those funds for the initial investment into the business, from there, any profits I made I would then turn around and invest back into it.
