Hi Andre , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Hi my name is Andre Johnson. I am a comedian and owner of a famous brand called DreDayTv. I came up with name DreDayTv because my name is Andre and the content that I drop outside of stand up is similar to what you may see on Tv. With the way social media is going it is essentially like tv if you pay attention to advertisements and other things that you may see on television. But the reason I came up with DreDayTv and decided to pursue comedy is to make people laugh. We live in a time to where I feel like depression is at an all time high. I like to think that I relieve some of that depression by making people laugh. I mean who doesn’t want to laugh. I never knew how far it would take me. I trusted god and understood that entertain is one of my callings. I am now monetized on YouTube, Tik Tok, Instagram & Facebook as a comedian. I have been featured on famous birthdays and won Top Comedian in St. Louis 2022. Giving that African Americans only make up 13% of the United States I think it’s important for our generation and the black community to take risk on chasing our dreams. I use my brand to inspire and remind my audience that I’m no different than them. I take the time out to respond to fans and go live on platforms like Instagram, Tik Tok, and YouTube.! I have gained almost 900k Tik Tok Supporters, 100k Instagram Supporters and Over 100k YouTube subscribers. I connect with my audience through characters that I have created. One being Rashad. A character that is played by me but as the role of my son. My audience sees the struggle of trying to raise a Child who is influenced by what most kids in the black community are influenced by. DreDayTv was created to inspire and show not just the people that look just like me but everyone that if you have a dream to chase it and always believe in yourself.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was raised in St.Louis Missouri. I have gained over 70 million views on Tik Tok & 45 Million Views on YouTube through my brand DreDayTv. I have shown my audience that you can do whatever you want with your craft by helping direct and act in Famous Rapper Videos like “30 Deep Grimeyys” Sleazy Flow video that reached over 4 millions. Doing stand up, and even making songs myself as well as doing comedy skits and dropping short films. My family was never rich growing up. We moved from house to house growing up. By the time I was senior in highschool I was kicked out the house and began to experience real life. I was able to get myself own self into college as an independent and I played 2 years of college basketball. After getting arrested I decided to move back to Saint Louis before I got in any more trouble. All though I was apart of a comedy group Highlifecomedy with over 70,000 at 17 i was stuck in survival mode trying to figure out life so comedy was never on my mind as a career choice. My mother had 3 children by the time she was 16 years old. My father never wanted to be apart of me and my twins life so now that I have a daughter she is my biggest motivation to make sure I’m apart of her life as well as work on my career to be able to take care of her.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media by being my authentic self. What you see is what you get. I don’t pretend to be someone or something I’m not. I have used my platform to put motivational things on my story and I have used my characters to tell a story that most of my audience knows. I also incorporate my characters into my real life like my wedding and other important events in my life so that my audience feels even more connected to DreDayTv
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
One of the best books that helped me scale my business is Rich Dad Poor Dad and 50 Cents Book. Hustle Harder Hustle Smarter. I read a lot but those two books changed my mindset on how to approach life, money and business.
