Jocelyn , appreciate you joining us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
The idea of me actually pursuing DJing came from me always being in charge of the music at any family event or party, and my uncle, who is a DJ also played part in my push to becoming one. I knew I would succeed in this field because of my personality, my love for all music, & how well of a people person I am. Still to this day I’m still the same energetic person just with more knowledge of DJing under my belt.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Spraggins Entertainment is the name of my business. I go by DJ Joce as well. I DJ any type of event, weddings, parties just anything really. I started actually taking DJing more serious around 2017. I told my parents I wanted to get more into it and maybe one day do actual events. Then one day my Dad came home and surprised me with a bunch of equipment! He was just in basic conversation with a lady and they began talking about me and wanting to become a DJ. Believe it or not she was actually getting rid of her late husband’s equipment! So she gave my dad two working speakers and a mixer. From there everything just started happening for me. Unfortunately, when covid happened I took a big step back. I stepped back out in February of 2022 and things just took off from there. I was finding myself booked every month, sometimes every weekend with different gigs.
I’m just not the average party DJ, whatever event you want to throw I am your girl. Any type of event I’ll rock it out. Even all age groups! I never just want to be known as just one specific DJ I want to be a all around DJ! I’m also a female getting involved in such a male dominant field. Where I’m from there’s not many of us. So I feel like that’s what sets me apart from others. I am willing to take on any task, any event no matter what it is or the age group and I’m able to deliver what the client wants and more.
I am most proud of how much I have evolved. There would be certain events I wouldn’t feel comfortable with doing because I was too hard on myself thinking I couldn’t do this party correctly. At times I get in my head and tell myself I can’t do this type of event. Having the support system of my significant other, family, and friends definitely pushed me to step out of my comfort zone. So my growth is what I’m most proud of.
To the future clients, fans, followers, whoever, I would want them to know they would get the best experience ever. I will never just play whatever music. I like to get to know my client first and get a feel of what type of person they are and what music they like. If your client doesn’t have fun at their own event the job was not done successfully. Once I have those locked down then I can plan the event/party more easily and from there it’s just a fun time. Just know, you will always get that experience from me. I’m down to earth and always looking to have a fun time and learn things in this profession. There is always room for improvement.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Social media definitely helped me build up my reputation. Without that I don’t think I would of had half of my bookings. Word of mouth is always a blessing and goes far. Social media just reached to others more and I’m definitely appreciative of that. Facebook has really been my main outlet. I could post something and just a simple share goes a long way.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal right now is to one day become a full time DJ. I would love to branch out further and come across bigger and better opportunities. I know as long as I keep going and putting myself out there something will fall into my lap to where I can step back from my day job and actually do what I love!
