We recently connected with Sue-Jamie Cruz and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sue-Jamie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump right into the heart of things. Outsiders often think businesses or industries have much larger profit margins than they actually do – the reason is that outsiders are often unaware of the biggest challenges to profitability in various industries – what’s the biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
Honestly it’s the fact that a lot of people are still trying to grasp what exactly a content creator is and what we do. Content is a long run game. Currently right now I believe it’s the slowest industry but I have full faith that it’s just going to take time, constancy and educating properly through social, to really help the vision make sense to others.

Sue-Jamie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi there, I’m Sue-Jamie, owner and creator of The Nurtured Studio. Pleasure to meet you. 🙏🏼 I’m a mom and partner working full time while also working Nurtured part time.
At Nurtured we provide creative services such as photography and videos for the culinary industry. Our goal is to help take one thing (social media) off their plates so they can focus on their true craft. Food.
My background is majority culinary and I’m a huge foodie myself. I’ve always been around food and even went to school a bit for culinary so it was just bound to happen.
When I first started Nurtured, I was catering to all but I quickly realized my niche and passion lied with food. I’m a huge foodie what can I say lol.
I’m honestly proud of how The Nurtured Studio is coming together. It’s a blessing to not only have the creative privilege but also the ability to help others get further or even feel seen. Being an entrepreneur itself is a blessing and I’m proud that I never gave up.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I first launched Nurtured it was actually Nurtured by Sj. I was still trying to find my place and flow. As I kept going, I kept growing and I don’t mean that necessarily in income, followers etc. I grew in knowledge and position.
I went from not knowing what my title was to hunkering down on exactly what we do, how we help and who we help.
My business had shifted in identity , clarity and purpose.
I’m so proud 😊

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Investing and outsourcing into your business. Whenever we gain more we tend to want to keep it all, BUT when you give more is actually when you gain more. Investing into your business by growing your mentality and expertise.
Outsourcing by paying or hiring someone else to do a skill or task that either you can’t do or don’t have the expertise in.
Saves you time and money
