Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Keesha Anderson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Keesha, appreciate you joining us today. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
The educational system has not prepared students for the highest probability of success possible. By failing to stimulate our emotional health, bullying has now undoubtedly played a part in children self esteem in a real world environment. Schools have also done poorly with teaching financial literacy, one of the largest components to life after the classroom. Most schools systems omit our country’s true historical facts, thus enabling the minds of the ignorant and leaving the naive in the dark about this country’s true roots. School doesn’t provide a balanced environment that effectively caters to the needs of safety, efficiency, or necessary knowledge. I think preparation starts with accountability. The academic curriculum needs to be dissected and the overall agenda needs to be reevaluated.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My brand is Keesha Kaylee. I have been a social media content creator/influencer for almost ten years. I got inspired to get into a social media career while a sophomore at Spelman College. Studying theater and political science while there, I stumbled across other Youtube content creators and got fascinated with their limitless freedom to entertain the masses and tell their own story while making a large amount of money. Very quickly I began making viral content and sharing my personal life with thousands of people that truly resonated with my audience. My brand became influential and from there I was able to start my first business, GotLengths LLC, a hair company. Today the business has generated a 6-figure salary for 8 consecutive years. Throughout the years, as an influencer, I have been awarded the privilege to work with top brands like Macys, NYX Cosmetics, Temi Blends, Carters, Amazon, Fashion Nova, and so much more, From my success I have written Ebooks and hosted webinars to teach other people how to rebrand themselves and expand their business. Today, I am now the manager of my daughters’ brand as well as continuing down my path of reaching new heights of my own career,
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Being a social media content creator for 8 consecutive years of your life starting, when you were just becoming legal to drink can be very intimidating. There were times when I uploaded 6 days out of a week for 4 consecutive years. There were times when my life was falling apart from broken relationships, a miscarriage, public scrutiny, post pardum depression, anxiety attacks and so much more, but my gift was uplifting others throughout their own trials and tribulations so I had to create the positive content that my audience had grown to love. My worst year as an influencer I remember when it became a trend to make content bullying and harassing me and my children. Other people found joy monetizing off of bullying me and creating content that tried to smear my name and reputation by any means. I was loosing hundreds and thousands of dollars in brand deals and I was dealing with so many legal battles trying to hold the people accountable behind the mayhem. I almost had to walk away from my entire career. Instead, I regrouped and shifted my focus back to what actually mattered. My daughters were the very strength I needed to walk in authority of my purpose. I am their guide and their role model and I knew more than anything I must not lead them astray. With God in her, she will NEVER fail and that’s exactly what I didn’t do. Throughout the adversity and the countless attacks that were made on me I rebranded myself and kept going. I had to grow up on my platform filled with people from all walks of life. There have been many obstacles living my life under a microscope, but the ultimate reward is staying true to who I am and continuing to inspire those that feel voiceless.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Entrepreneurship can be very financially rewarding. I went from getting $250 per post to promote a brand, to now making up to $12k for one single post. From loving what I do, I invested time into learning not only how to make money for other people, but myself as well. I am a huge risk taker. However, I also pride myself on integrity so I have created my own businesses that are too lucrative in ways that not only do I take, but I like to give back to the people who support me. So I take a lot of time figuring out business plans that benefit me, but would be a gift that keeps on giving to the people who buy. Whether it be knowledge, beauty, or a piece of my own personal life that not many other creators are comfortable with sharing. My first ebook generated well over $100k and I used it to buy a house and became the first homeowner in my family.
