Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jacquelyn Potesta. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jacquelyn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
I always thought anesthesia would be my lifelong career, but I’ll never forget when it all changed in 2019. I had just dropped off a patient in recovery and was heading to my next case when I checked my phone. A video popped up from our nanny of my 4 month old son rolling over for the first time. I stopped in the middle the hallway with tears in my eyes to watch it. I felt such a range of emotions – pride, but also a deep sadness and guilt that I wasn’t able to be there to see it. Adding to the mom-guilt was the stress and instability of working in healthcare during 2020. I was tired of coming home and giving my “leftovers” to my family. After long days I’d be mentally exhausted and stressed, which left me impatient and short with the people I love most. I knew finding a way to work for myself, on my own terms, was the only way to feel fulfilled.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi friend! I’m Jacquelyn Potesta, a multi-passionate entrepreneur, boy-mom, and Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).
Empowering working moms, clean(ish) living, and personal development are my jam!
I am a Cincinnati native (go Bengals!) and left for Charleston, SC for anesthesia school. After meeting my future husband and coming home in 2017, life happened fast – we got married, started new jobs, moved 3 times, and had 2 kids within 3 years!
After realizing I wanted more time-freedom than working as an employee allowed, I built a successful e-commerce business and led a team of over 150 women. I loved empowering other new moms to make a living in the online space! But I found myself craving in-person interactions, and I wanted to use the skills I learned in anesthesia school. I’ve always loved beauty and skincare, so I found a career that would allow me to combine that with my advanced training in anatomy and injections: aesthetics!
I spent 2021 pursuing my aesthetics career, opened a concierge service, and officially opened my own brick + mortar spa, JUNO in September of 2022!
I chose the name Juno because it is the name of an ancient Roman goddess. Recognized as the Goddess of all Goddesses, Juno was known as a beautiful, loving mother who represented vitality and youthfulness. She was also a strong warrior who fiercely protected her family and Roman women. Soft but strong, kind but fierce, majestic but powerful – I love that Juno embodies the complex, multi-faceted femininity of women today! Modern women are SO powerful – we really do it all!
I want every client at Juno to walk out feeling powerful and confident so they can be the best version of themselves. I believe that when you prioritize self-care and fill your own cup, you’re better equipped to care for the important people in your life.
I am proud to be an expert in anatomy with over 10 years experience doing complex injections. My background, combined with my signature process, allows my clients to achieve their results while looking natural! I also value educating my clients so they can feel confident in their treatment plan and know exactly what to expect.
At Juno I offer many treatments that are natural or use your own body to drive results, such as Platelet-Rich Plasma and microneedling. I have signature packages like The Ceres (aka mommy makeover, designed to rejuvenate tired undereyes and brighten skin), The Minerva (a non-surgical facelift), and the Goddess Glow (brightening and tightening for radiant, dewy skin). I also offer complimentary consultations for those who don’t know where to start!
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Finding a community of like-minded business owners! I am so lucky to be part of a network of other CRNAs who own their own aesthetic businesses. We mastermind together, go to events together, and hold each other accountable! Community over competition is a powerful mindset shift to favor abundance and growth! I have learned so much from them and know for a fact I’ve built bigger and faster because of their support!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I truly believe the foundation of all successful business is building relationships. I try to add as much value as possible, whether that’s educational videos on social media, taking the time to really listen and address questions/concerns in a consultation, or sending a happy birthday message. In a fast-paced society, taking your time with someone really shows you care! When clients feel seen, heard, understood, and cared for, they are going to be more likely to come back or refer friends. There are so many “quick in, quick out” aesthetic practices out there – at Juno I really strive to get to know each person that sits in my chair and make them feel as special as they are.
