Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sheritta Love Harris. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sheritta Love, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been one of the most interesting investments you’ve made – and did you win or lose? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
The best investment I’ve ever made was the one I made for myself.
When the pandemic first hit in 2018 and shut the world down, it became extremely hard to make the music I had in my head. I wanted the chance to create without needing others help. As musician, playing my instruments made me happy, filled me with purpose and allowed me to express myself without words. When it was taken from me, my depression kicked in and I felt so incomplete. One day, as I was scrolling through instagram, it hit me. Producers and engineers are still making music. They can be alone in a room filled with instruments and other equipment and create. I wanted this for myself. I wanted to learn the other side of music. I wanted to learn how to record, make beats and create without limitations. Spring of 2018, I set the gears in motion. I had space in my home to create my very own office/home studio. I purchased equipment and programs that would help me learn. I used resources from other musician friends and youtube. I became a producer. I became an engineer. It took me almost a year to learn music production. I am grateful. I am happy. I can do whatever I desire with music and I’m proud of that.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Recently, I have ventured in to the world of design with her website www.Lovefree1.com. I have an array of items inspired by my daughter, my music and my life.
Over the span of 20 years in music, I have developed many connections and musical ventures that has contributed to her community through time and dedication. I have done workshops at Carver Vocational High School with the current band director Mr. Richard Milburn to show his students what music can do mentally, physically and emotionally for them to help development in other school subjects such as math, reading, and science. Also giving the students an opportunity to express themselves creatively.
As a musician/artist/producer/engineer, I have been faced many challenges. One major challenge is being a female in a male dominated section in music. Not the women can’t plays drums, its just not that many of us out there. I hope to help change that in the industry. I want to inspire as many women as possible to go after what makes you happy.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I am a musician with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Anxiety and Depression.
Music has helped me continue to move through life with a better understanding. There are days where I physically can not move and that make it very hard to deal with everyday life.
Music has always been my therapy. It allows me express my deepest feelings without saying a word.
I may get knocked down but I refuse to be knocked out. Each day I get up and make decisions that help to better me as a human being. Music helps me to do that. It gives me purpose. With that purpose comes resiliency that gets stronger with each passing day. You have to know what it is that brings you joy and peace. Its your right to fight for it mercilessly and unapologetically.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is simply being able to create. Giving yourself the freedom to express your thoughts, feelings, beliefs and ideas is a joy no one can really explain. It’s like having your favorite food everyday without consequences.
