We recently connected with Lola Renee and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lola , thanks for joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
In March of 2020, right before the pandemic hit I took a risk and moved out of a home I shared with my kids & their father. I had no job & only enough money to pay the deposit & 1st month of my new apartment. I was a single mother of two knowing I had to change my current situation if I ever wanted to not only be successful but to be happy. Me moving out that house was the best thing to ever happen to me even thought throughout the years to come I faced many trials + tribulations in my personal life & business, being a single mother on my own with no help or support was my biggest motivation & now 3 years later, I’m still a single mother but I have done the work internally to find my sense of peace & I found my purpose in this world is to not try & build a business for profit but to build something that will make a difference & help someone who was like me 3 years ago, alone, afraid but determined. Through me taking a risk, stepping out of faith & walking away from what some would picture as a “safety net” SuperMoms was born.

Lola , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a single mother of 3 boys, who has always has an entrepreneurial spirit. I had my first son at the age of 21 which is when I also started my first business selling sunglasses. My business was called “Eye Slay” and did really well. It ran for about 4 years & within those 4 years i rebrand once and change the name from “Eye Slay” to “Kalon Eyewear” then eventually sold the business in 2020. I’ve also had other business to include event planning, party decor & rentals, stationery shop, & clothing line. What I learned through all my business trials was that I wasn’t full filled by any of it. I was chasing the dream of being a successful entrepreneur but I wasn’t walking in my purpose. That’s why none of my businesses stuck. When I got the idea of starting SuperMoms I originally was just going to launch it as a podcast because I wanted to just reach other single mothers & let them know you are not alone. Once I got into it & started having moms reach out to me and express out much they needed to just hear some kind words I knew I had to do more. So I created SuperMoms the nonprofit in efforts to build a village for mothers that will help break any cycles of generational curses + unresolved trauma that could effect their parenting skills. Not only do we provide tangible resources we provide support & education to single mothers everywhere.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I am still currently building my social media presence. I have slight OCD so when I start something new I have to start from stratch so that’s what I did with my current social media pages but one thing I’ve learned is consistency is key & the only way your gonna be the algorithm is to be consistent. If you watch some social media experts they’ll tell you, you have to post this type of content & this particular time to reach these many people but the reality is. YOU JUST GOTTA POST! that’s the hard part. It doesn’t matter what you post or when you post it, just post something—of course you want to post something relevant to your brand & you want your post to be somewhat decent looking but once you get the consistency of posting continuously throughout the day, your audience will grow organically.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
My business for the most part as been completely self funded. I saved my own personal money to cover all overhead. We had our first community baby shower event December 2022 which we were able to bring in about $500 in monetary donations, on top of clothing items & baby essentials donations. we also use funding from our business credit if we need to but we try to use that sparingly.
