We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mei Talley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Mei, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I have released with the public is my single “Wait.”
It was the product of my journey to healing after a break up of a 6 year relationship.
It took about 6 months to complete the song. Half was written while I was still broken and the other half was written when I experienced a breakthrough.
I say it’s the most meaningful because I get the most feedback from audiences when I perform this song. Many of us have been through heartbreak and dealt with toxic relationships. It’s easy to get caught in cycles and stay in a mess just because it’s become comfortable, but to break free from that type of situation spiritually takes you to another level.
There were tears on my notepad when I wrote this song, and you can feel them through the song.

Mei, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Kamecia, but many know me as Mei.
I’m a Nashville native, and I arrived in the Nashville music scene in the fall of 2022.
I have been singing since I was three years old, and started learning guitar in high school. I’ve always known that music was my passion, but it took the pandemic to realize I should chase my dreams while I can. After releasing a few singles, I began working on a full project which is still in progress.
My fans can expect quality soul-filled music from beginning to end. I believe quality truly is better than quantity, and any of my art that I share with others will embody who I am and where I am.
There are many ways I’ve been able to use my voice. In April of 2022, I opened for Afro-beat artist, Oxlade.
In addition to solo performances, I have sang background vocals for Khrys Hatch and several other artists. I’ve also recorded demos for several microphone reviews for YouTuber, Czar.
I am looking forward to continuing to improve my skills and collaborate with other amazing creatives.
I have severals amazing artists lined up to collaborate with and I’m excited to share what we create. Fans can expect an eclectic project with a mix of neo-soul, jazz, and classical genres in the near future.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I would say my resilience is still in the process of being tested. I currently work full time in the clinical research industry which involves traveling weekly. It is a very demanding job, but throughout the year I was still able to book several live performances and recording sessions.
I struggled a lot last year finding balance because it was my first year in a new position. I felt a lot of anxiety because I had my supporters asking for new music and availability to do shows, but I was often traveling for work or stressed about keeping my job which provides stability.
I’m still finding the balance, but I think the saying is true about anything worth having may not come easy. So I am leaning into the resistance, and I know I’ll come out of it better than before.
I can say I’m proud of what I was able to accomplish in 2022, but I am ready to push myself harder in 2023.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the connections we make with one another. Not just the connections we make with other artists, but the connections we make with the audience is so meaningful. Music is a spiritual experience and I think it’s amazing when we can come together when a certain melody is played or a certain lyric is sang.
So ya, I say the most rewarding thing is the unity it brings.
