We were lucky to catch up with Damarius Owens recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Damarius thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I gained interest in making and producing my own music when i was about 17 years old. I began watching youtube videos, and once i got money for equipment, i started making beats and trial and error really taught me more than any college course i took. I feel that having more support for sure, wouldve helped me grow much faster as a creative, since ive been working since i was 18, i never really had a chance to fully focus on my craft.
Damarius, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Right now, im working out of my bedroom studio, producing songs for myself as well as a few other artist in the area. I have solved a lot of issues that i found myself encountering early on, such as people gate keeping studio space, having the budget to buy beats, etc. I literally dont need anyone to complete a full, platform ready album, EP, single it doesnt matter. Now that I am making quality music, i want to start linking up with other artist and helping each other grow and take the next steps towards our ultimate goals
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My main goal, is to prove to myself that I can accomplish all the things that the people who inspire me have, and to be able to take care of Myself and my family by doing what i love, and am passionate about.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
