We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amaury & Alfys. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amaury below.
Amaury & Alfys, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
To be honest this all started as a hobby. We learned the “basics” of songwriting at a young age, and it honestly started as something to do for fun and share with our friends and family. As time progressed, we really noticed that this is something we can pursue as a career and really took the leap of Faith to give ourselves a chance. One of the things we would have done to speed up our learning process would definitely be to take a step back, listen, and study how the industry works before making certain decisions. It’s very easy to get caught up in the “dream”, recognition, traveling that you end up making decisions on impulse. Beyond being creative the most essential skill while pursuing this career is persistence and PATIENCE! Nothing comes overnight and even less comes if you’re not consistent. We’ve been doing music for over 10 years and although we may not be as big as some of the artists we have come across “sharks”. People with only their best interest at heart. We’ve had people make promises they couldn’t keep and even steal money from us but through it with patience and persistence we are starting to see the fruits of our labor.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We are a Latin duo by the name Sin Limite, which translates to “without limits”. Chasing what most people consider a “1 in a million” dream we noticed pretty early on that there are a lot of people or situations that will try to limit you, so we wanted to base ourselves around being Limitless. With our music we try to set the example for our fans or fellow “Limitless Alumni” by going for it at all costs regardless of the amount of doubt us. We show that by reminding you the only person that can truly limit you is yourself. Living in New York and having a traditional Dominican family gave us all the special ingredients needed to formulate our signature Spanglish sound which incorporates Latin rhythm and melodies with English phrases and lyrics. When we set out on this journey, we wanted people wanted to be an example of what happens when you follow your heart and set out to do what you love, and with every milestone achieved we feel we are closer to setting that example.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For us it has to be seeing people’s genuine reaction to our content. Whether that be a music video, song or content on social media, being able to see that we were able to create a piece of art that can provoke an emotion. We have countless songs that we listen to that if we could, we would thank the artist for unknowingly helping us through something we were going through with just their music. If we can return that favor to at least one of our fans, that’s enough reward for us.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Some things aren’t too good to be true. In this industry you come across a lot of sharks and it’s easy to feel like that’s all there is, but for every shark you encounter there’s a genuine person wanting to see you win. We had to learn to trust the unknown and follow our heart. Through that we’ve gone on to meet some great people who became part of our team and have helped set the foundation for the direction we’re going in now. Unlearn to assume the worse and learn to trust your gut.
