We were lucky to catch up with Kiana Rempfer recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kiana, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
The thought started in 2017 when I was working at a cheerleading and dance gym and they told us they were closing the gym next season. I was devastated and wanted to stay connected to my passion. I didn’t get an opportunity to move in to the next gym like everyone else did so I kind of had to forge my own path. I started putting myself out there as a dance instructor and a dancer being that I have been dancing since I was seven years old; and I got my first client a year later. I was so happy and started to get great reviews and now 5 years later I’m one of the top dance instructors and dancers viewed and recommended in my area.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Kiana Rempfer and I’ve been dancing for 21 years. My mother (Kimberly Brown) put me into cheerleading and dance when I was 7 years old. I was more a dancer then I was a cheerleader. Dance practice was the highlight of my week every week. It was the one place where I felt like I could be myself. The older I got the more the instructors saw that I was leaning towards dance more then cheer and at the age of 15 they made me a junior coach. I learned the ropes of working with people through that gym that I was practically raised in. I started watching more and more videos and other dancers so that I could learn how to be a great dancer and one day become head dance instructor. I became head instructor at 20 years old. That’s when I knew I wanted to dance professionally and to teach dance.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The goal is to one day be able to teach dance everyday 7 days a week to people between the ages of five years old and 65 years old. Dance is one of the best forms of exercise among other great exercises and I feel that it is also one of the best ways to figure out how to love who you are and be comfortable in your own skin because we live in a world where people judge you by the way you look and if I can change how people feel about themselves then I’d be doing my part to better the world. I also am driven by the fact that a lot of young children are getting into trouble more and more and if I can give them the chance to stay out of trouble through dance then I will jump at the opportunity every single time.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a performer (dancer) is that it gives me the chance to feel like myself to feel free and the exhilarating feeling when standing in front of people and pouring my heart through my craft. The high of dancing is when that music comes on and you just start moving your body in the many different and unique ways demonstrating the art of dancing through choreography and emotion. The most rewarding feeling is being able to express my feelings through my craft, my art; dance.
