We recently connected with 4Deep and have shared our conversation below.
4Deep, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success can be described in many ways, financial amongst the more common. Our idea of success includes doing what you love for a living & providing for our families & community. This goal requires us to be self aware & humble. Success takes consistency, good product, follow ups with peers in your industry, & dedication to doing your best. Growth is not linear so, it takes persistence, belief in yourself, and taking risks. When Preparation meets Oppurtunity, Success is born.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Being that we are 4 individuals, we got our starts at different times. J.Pounds & Breauxgawd, half of 4Deep, got their start in 2012. Emantreeman & Chad Savage, 3 yrs older, got their start earlier. All 4 of us grew up in Ferguson, MO, going to the same high school. Having shared experiences grew us closer as friends & as collaborators.
We first released music together as 4Deep, in 2015. In our growth since our first songs, we’ve learned how to accommodate each other’s individuality. With our collective creative voice we push accepting new perspectives, community building and enjoying life as it is. We’ve inspired creatives in our community, and strive to inspire generations with our message.
When people spend time with our music, we want them to understand the perspective of black men, not subscribing to any social structure or stereotype, being themselves and happy with who they are. We want our fans to feel like they are enough, no matter their conditions or social status.
Our willingness to execute our creative vision by any means necessary may slow down our output, but it leads to a product we are extremely proud of. The cohesion, ensuring all 4 members’ perspectives are heard in a creative way throughout each project, and how we are communicating our message are all considered when creating a product we believe in. We care about the quality of our music & our impact on our community, and plan to give back as we build our platform in the city.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
We collectively have been making music for years, but in 2019 we finally started crafting what came to be our debut album, The Big Gang Theory. Come 2020, just as we got into a groove of completing the project, the pandemic was announced. This changed the studio accessibility, with engineers only allowing one artist in the studio at a time. Our dynamic in the studio changed and we had to communicate & rely on each other to complete the goal we set in place. Not only each other, but our collaborators had to understand the vision to execute it without us present. We continued to live through the pandemic, going to work, staying safe, and creating our first album. By April of 2021, we had 2 music videos, planned a listening party, and released our first full body of work. It’s available everywhere!

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
When we first started, we were just having fun creating music at home. We didn’t have an idea of how to create a quality song or how to get that song to the people. As we started being a part of the artistic community here, we were introduced to multiple important creatives. These creatives gave us the tools to develop our sound. From engineers to graphic artists, our intro to the fine arts community has been the biggest helping hand to our career. I wish our community had ways to include young adults, teens fresh out of school and help hone talent from a young age. Our community offers group studio sessions with other creative peers, artist development camps, showcases, etc. I believe these opportunities are here to inspire, and we would’ve loved to be a part of this earlier in our career.lol
