We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Divina Stennfeld a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Divina, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
Photography had always been a side hobby of mine, but everything changed for me the Fall of 2016. I had just graduated from college and didn’t have a clear direction with what I wanted to do, so I decided to go live in Barcelona, Spain for 3 months. Before this trip, I decided to buy my first nice camera to capture my time abroad. I ended up falling more and more in love with photography. Everywhere you look in Europe, there is something beautfiul to capture. I was so inspired by it all, so much that I decided when I got back to the US, I would try to make an income from photography. And the rest was history!
Divina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
After I got back from my Europe trip, I would really take any photography jobs I could. I started out getting most of my business from word of mouth, but I slowly started getting more seen on Instagram as well. Eventually, a few bloggers with a big following reached out for photos, and this really helped my work get seen by a lot more viewers. The growth of my business was pretty gradual, but eventually, I had enough clients to take my business full-time. I would describe my photography style as colorful, warm, joyful, and happy! I love to capture the natural joy and “in-between” moments of my clients, and make them feel naturally beautiful!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Instagram by far. I would say I get at least 80% of my clients through Instagram. By putting relative hashtags on my photos and posting frequently, people have been able to find me pretty easily which has been awesome!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of my job is definitely hearing how my clients react to seeing their photo gallery. It makes my day everytime a client tells me how much they love their photos or how beautiful they feel!
