We recently connected with Richard & Lindsay Lyons and have shared our conversation below.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Richard worked on the road for about 10 years as an independent carpenter remodeling hotels, including the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, TN.
Along the way, he was able to do what he loves and learn a lot about carpentry and running crews to make sure the job got done right. Richard is very particular about the work that he does and he wants everything to be as perfect as they can be!
Me, Lindsay, has always had an eye for running a business. I have been an assistant manager a few times and a store manager of a Circle K. All the while I am also a photographer and ran my own photography business while working for others. I learned a lot about running a business from my previous jobs and just knew that I wanted to be my own boss one day.
Richard put me through college so I could be better at photographing people and I couldn’t be more thankful for that!
As of December 28, 2021 we opened Lyons Excellrnce LLC and we have been extremely busy ever since! We offer everything carpentry from building sheds, to painting, demoing and installing new fences and decks, and home remodels. There is so much we can do, but those are just a few of the things we offer.
I run the office from home and do all things business and HR related to our business. I love speaking with the clients and finding out what their dream home ideas are and seeing the clients’ dreams come to life after Richard and Jeremy have done the dirty work. I schedule all the appointments, run HR and payroll, manage the website and all the social media content. It’s definitely a busy job, but I love everything about it.
Richard is my husband and we run the business together. While I do all of the business office functions he does all the dirty work and it all turns out so beautiful! He does all the carpentry work including bidding projects. He has built wood sheds, installed things like appliances and toilets, remodeled homes, put up fences and railings, painted, built walks and installed many doors. The work he does is endless and it always turns out gorgeous.
Our son, Jeremy, also works along side of his father and learns new things every day. He helps Richard do the dirty work and learns a lot along the way. Before he knows it, he will know a lot and one day will be running the business.
As individuals and business owners, we pride ourselves for our communication with our clients and we do everything in our power to make them happy. In today’s world there is so much bad going on and we just want to make others happy and do our part.
We love what we do and our clients!

We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
Richard and I met when we were just 13 years old in Gainesville Florida. Both of us knew almost instantly that we would be together forever.
We were married and had our son, Jeremy, at just 19 years old. We were very young and had a lot to learn about life. We separated at the age of 20 and were divorced by the age of 26. However, no matter how bad things got, we always stayed in touch mainly because we had a child together.
Both of us had relationships during the 11 years that we were apart and even adopted our stepchildren along the way. But neither of us had remarried or had children with other people. IN the back of our minds we always loved each other and knew that one day we would come back together.
And we did! In 2015 we got back together and we have been building ever since! We remarried on April 24, 2021 and in the same year, we bought a house together, became young grandparents to a handsome baby boy named Corey Richard, and opened a business together.
Things will only get better from here and we are looking forward to our future!

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
We knew what we wanted to do, but our funds were very limited due to getting remarried, me having two brain surgeries, and buying our house. So John, my father-in-law and Richard’s father came to our rescue as soon as he realized the potential and passion that Richard and I had. He used the money that was left behind from my dear mother-in-law and Richard’s mother, Deborah, to help us start our business!
God decided he needed her in September of 2021. And as much as she is loved and we wanted her to stay in the physical world with us, God needed her more. We love and miss her every day!
Had it not been for John and Deborah, we would have never been able to start our business together any time soon. They helped us get all the business licenses, business insurances, website, and marketing materials we needed to start our business.
We will forever be grateful for that. We love them both very much!
