We recently connected with Maddi Manheimer and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Maddi , thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success can be defined in many ways, but to me it takes persistence and determination to be successful. All success stories have bumps in the road, but it’s how you handle the bad moments that makes you successful. During those times, I reflect on my accomplishments and stay focused on my future goals. I know, based on past experience, that continuing to produce quality work and meet client expectations will make me successful.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, my name is Maddi Manheimer, and I’m a photographer specializing in fashion and portrait photography.
I started taking photos when I was very young, but It wasn’t until I took a darkroom class in high school that I discovered my forever passion. I love being able to show others how I view the world through my camera lens. I graduated from Columbia College of Chicago with a BFA in Fashion Photography. I moved to LA shortly after graduating, working for an entertainment company shooting red carpet and celebrity events. I have recently broadened my work into videography and social media content creation. Today, I keep busy with my clients needs, whether its video, photo or social media content.
One thing that sets me apart from others is my originality. I’m able to bring different angles, lighting and color to my images. I’m not afraid to step out of my comfort zone and experiment.
Recently, I was on the news in my hometown of St. Louis for my photography. It felt really good to be in the spotlight and to be acknowledged for all of my hard work.
The main thing that I want clients to know about my company is that I go above and beyond to make sure that they are comfortable. A lot of models and clients that I work with are new to modeling or are nervous having their photos taken. It’s important to have a photographer who really cares and makes the shoot relaxing and enjoyable.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Most of my clients are referrals from existing clients. It seems that most people want to know that they’re hiring someone who has done a great job for their business contacts, friends or family. Quite often I’ve gotten work from a conversation that takes place during a client’s event. It’s all about networking. Whether it’s a photo shoot or a social media event, I know I will find a new client.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
My opinion is that people think having a creative job is not a real job since it’s not a typical 9 to 5 work day. Most creatives are freelancers, which means they are on their own to find work. Some weeks are really open and other weeks are slammed. For me, as a social media manager, I’m working everyday, but the amount of time spent on video work, photoshoots or editing can vary. That doesn’t mean creatives work any less than the average person. In fact, most days I’m editing well into the night.
