We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rafael Vanoni and Mauro Tarakdian. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rafael Vanoni and Mauro Tarakdian below.
Rafael Vanoni and Mauro Tarakdian, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with a hypothetical question – if it were up to you, what would you change about the school or education system to better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career?
There are so many challenges with the educational system that it’s hard to pick just one or two issues to discuss. The cost of getting a university education and the debt industry that it created holds the country back in more ways than we can imagine. That has to end, full stop.
From the perspective of preparing students for a more fulfilling life, I think society in general would benefit from teaching life skills, like communication, how to develop and maintain relationships, how to deal with conflict, how to manage stress, depression, anxiety, etc. The science based curriculum that we have is fundamental, but we also need to talk to students about what kind of life they want to have and show them the tools needed to get there.
Can you imagine how many problems we would solve if everyone knew how to communicate what’s going on in their lives in a healthy way ?

Rafael Vanoni and Mauro Tarakdian, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
It’s a bit difficult not to get all philosophical when talking about Orbian Drums. If you haven’t had a chance to meet us or try our products, we probably look like any other drum company out there. But to ourselves and our clients, Orbian is a story of dedication to music and – apologies for the massive cliche – the pursuit of a better life.
We started Orbian around 2018, a few years after leaving Brazil and moving to California. We found our own ways to the US and reconnected years later to bring our musicianship and know how together to form Orbian.
Our drums are handmade in California and incorporate several details that are unique to our products. We go to great lengths to use components made in the US as much as possible and have partnered with some of the best suppliers in the market. Our finishes are exclusive and often made to order. Our drums are road tested by ourselves and a select number of artists – nothing goes out the door that we wouldn’t play ourselves.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
A large amount of what we do is fostering relationships. Yes, we want musicians to buy our products but we also want them to succeed in their careers. We like to think that our drums sell themselves but that only happens if someone is playing them, and we want that person to be at their best when performing. We’re fortunate to have gone through a number of difficulties as musicians ourselves and having learned lessons that we can share with our audience. Profits are great and obviously necessary, but we also want to have a positive impact in the lives of our clients.

How did you build your audience on social media?
We’re still building it! Social media is a great platform and it allows us to show all the labor and attention to detail that our drums require.
It’s important that our posts align with our overall messaging. Having a positive attitude and celebrating our client’s success stories are two key points, but also supporting their work as much as possible.
