We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ashley Hilt. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ashley below.
Hi Ashley, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with a hypothetical question – if it were up to you, what would you change about the school or education system to better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career?
I worked in the education system for a short period of time. It is complete chaos. I wish I could say that changing one thing about it would help but honestly, it needs a complete overhaul. Today’s students are being taught to be better test takers and get the score so that a school, district, superintendent, whoever looks good. In reality, this vastly hinders our students. In my opinion we are setting our students up to fail once they graduate. Education needs to be about creating better human beings, ones who think for themselves and have compassion for others. They should be taught life skills like cooking, how to handle money, and car care basics like changing a tire. We instill in these students to look to someone else for answers instead of teaching them how to find the answers for themselves. The biggest thing I think would help would be to teach these students that they aren’t alone and that the problems they think only they have are common and most people face in some way. Teaching our students that they should find balance in their lives is key. Having a job that pays a lot of money but leaves them dead inside doesn’t serve them. For a fulfilling life and career, step into who you are and own that. Be yourself.
Ashley, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Ashley Hilt. I am a transformational life coach. I help women step into their soul designed selves and live better, easier lives by looking at their lives through the lens of astrology and human design. Each woman I work with gets a personalized approach to looking at and handling her unique situation. There is no cookie cutter approach with me. My goal is for my client to create her own life of ease, joy, and flow while knowing that I am in her corner. I didn’t know that I wanted to be a coach for the longest time. When I went to college, I knew I wanted to help people and at first I thought that was going to be through publishing. When I got my English degree I actually went into a teaching route. I quickly fell through the cracks in education and knew that wasn’t it either. Still wanting to help people I got into the personal shopping/grocery delivery business and really loved it. I was helping people. But deep down I still felt like I was missing out on the true way to me to help people. Also during this time I had been diving into personal development. I had been dealing with depression and anxiety for years and wanted to understand where it came from. I’m one of those people who is always seeking to learn more. I stumbled upon manifestation and human design and rediscovered my love of astrology and having conversations with people that were more than surface level. Diving into all these topics I found out coaching was a thing that people can be paid well for. This was huge for me because in a round about way I’d been coaching people for a while. I attract people to me with problems that I help them with. We talk through things and they leave with a new perspective and clarity around their problem. I was basically already a coach except I wasn’t being paid or even calling myself that. I saw it as just helping people. So, with this new career path I began devouring free and low-priced content online. I learned some amazing stuff. Not feeling ready, I found some higher priced classes and content thinking that was the key. Even after that I didn’t feel confident stepping out into this new industry. I found a coach to work with after that. She pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and just start showing up for myself. It’s an ongoing process of getting out of my own way to make things happen so that I can show up for myself and others.
The service provide seems so simple to me. I help women embrace themselves. That looks different for every single person that I work with. My service is highly personalized for this reason. It also makes it slightly difficult for me to explain what I do because it honestly depends on who I am working with. I have a client that I help with motivation in business matters and helping her see that her stepping into herself is the key to her business thriving. Some of the tools I use include the client’s astrology and human design chart, tarot and oracle cards, meditations, crystals, spells, rituals, EFT tapping, journaling, asking quality questions, analogies and storytelling, and talking but knowing when to listen. Essentially, I help my clients transform themselves into their soul’s design by stripping society’s standards and helping them to create new standards.
The main thing I want anyone and everyone to know about me and what I do is that life is a journey of discovery. We get to learn who we are and how we be in the world. AND that it is 100% okay for that to change. Everyone’s journey looks different, but that’s exactly how it’s meant to be. My main goal is to on your team, cheering you on, and supporting you along your discovery not teaching you how I did it.
What sets me apart from any other coach is simply that they aren’t me. I have a big, loud way of showing up as myself that I learned through my journey. I support each of my people with everything I have and don’t have time for judgement. I can be the tough love, tell you what you need to hear when you need that but, mostly, I am going to remind you constantly that I am so proud of your growth, that you are loved and cared for, and that you can do this. My main goal is to support women; women support women. I show up as myself so that other people give themselves permission to do the same. I truly believe that if everyone steps into themselves the world would be a much better place.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Growing up we are taught do your best. Give 100% in everything you do. Society conditions us to strive for perfection. On my self discovery journey I learned that society’s way created perfectionism in me and that led to me getting stuck. I was listening to a podcast about perfectionism and that term had never really landed with me before, but hearing the way it was presented as not completing tasks because they weren’t good enough clung to me. I had a full blown lightbulb moment that I was a perfectionist especially when it came to showing up in my business. I was so blinded by social media and thinking that I had to have this perfectly currated prescense to get started in my business that any time I would try to put out content I got so caught up in the colors and layout that I just didn’t put anything out. I wish I could say that I learned this lesson and am done with it, but that’s not the case. I constantly have to remind myself that done is better than perfect. I have to meet myself and my people in the messy middle, that perfect isn’t even real. With this too comes knowing how to reserve my energy and that by doing what I can when I’m having a low day is just as valid as when I’m having a good day. If I’m operating at 40%, and I run with that, that’s perfect. If I’m operating at 100%, and I run with that, that’s perfect too. Knowing, accepting and embracing that I won’t always be at 100% has really helped to shift my focus on doing my best and showing up.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Thinking about my journey to becoming a coach there were so many times that I had to pivot. All of them have been massive, but they all have had my goal of helping people at the forefront. My most recent pivot from personal shopping and delivery to becoming a transformational life coach is probably the most important one though. As a personal shopper, helping my clients was at the center of everything. Coaching, though, is a more personalized and individualized approach. I’m not just providing a service with coaching; I am guiding a transformation. For me, the transformation is the key part as well being an active participant in their journey.
