We were lucky to catch up with Alayzjah Brock recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alayzjah , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I manage my social media myself. Since starting my business, i’ve learned a lot of things as far as marketing. From creating booking sites, flyers , instagram, tiktok . It’s not easy and it’s very time consuming. I understand why people hire others
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m Alayzjah and I’m a Licensed Full Specialist. I Specialize in facials, waxing , lash extensions, and nails. I’ve always been obsessed with watching youtube videos of extractions & watching shows like Dr.Pimple Popper and so i started doing some of my own research and ended up enrolling in school. When I initially started, I was only interested in waxing but I have a goal to one day own my own salon and wanted to offer everything so I became a Full Specialist. Id say Nails wad by biggest challenge because i had zero prior experience with them unlike most the people in my class . There’s been times where I’ve felt like I wasn’t expected to be there, African Americans aren’t dominating this industry , I was literally the only Black person there. It’s even been times where the teacher taught lessons completely in Spanish even though it was a dual language class. I took those notes, translated it, and just used all of that as motivation to make sure I finished and created a space for people that looked like myself. And Then I did . Dollhouse Esthetics is a haven for melanated women, All of my work and research is around treating specific skin types and my clients leave with instant results, feeling more confident than they were when they walked in. What sets me apart from others is that I actually care and give time to my clientele. I create an experience. I never rush on a service and make everyone as comfortable as possible. For my regular wax clients, I only see them on a 3-4 month basis because that’s when they’ve just gotten enough hair to wax ,and the timeframe should’ve been a month. They absolutely love that and it makes me feel good because we’re both literally seeing the progress. I cannot wait to grow and reach more people because i’d truly love to make a difference in people’s lives. There’s nothing like feeling good and confident in you own skin!
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Through my website I have a points system where every appointment the person books , they receive points and can eventually redeem their points for a free service. I also have punch cards so that the client can physically see their progress. Along with that punch card , I provide a Scratch off card that I’ve customized for my business and they give one to a friend , whatever the person scratches off they can redeem and the person that gave them the card receives $10 off their next visit.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Definitely word of mouth . That’s another reason I do my best with every person i come across because you never know what good things could come from them. Reviews have also built my reputation. I have clients drive hours to come in for an appointment, people fly in and come straight to me and i always ask how did they hear about me, the answer is almost always “ all of your reviews were really good “ or “ so & so told me about you “ . I’m most known for my speedy waxing and Vajacial Treatments
