We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Charles Kiser a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Charles, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s go back in time a bit – can you share a story of a time when you learned an important lesson during your education?
When I was young, I wanted to do something amazing in my life but had no clue what I wanted to do. I realized everyone else had no clue what they wanted either, we had ideas but in truth we had to decide on something that you truly wanted and growing up that’s the hard part because you have to build that, choose on what you want and decide for yourself to go towards that journey. My girlfriend Jackie always says to me to be humble and kind to myself but to also but confident and go for my dreams no matter what comes. So I decided as a young boy to help people whatever I decided to do, to improve, heal and help them and the world bringing my gifts and talents to help. I wanted to be a writer, astronaut, firefighter, director, actor, model, superstar, rockstar, athlete all of these were amazing but during my middle school years, I was bullied. I had friends that became enemies because of drama that brewed, and either about girls that we liked or friends that we didn’t. I remember fighting with one of my friends because he thought I liked a girl that he had a crush on, but in truth she was one of my friends and I did not like her. He didn’t believe me and some of his friends were on his side and had his back so went against me, and tried to call me names, push me around and make me seem weak. They really were just insecure little boys that were jealous because I could have the confidence to talk to girls the same age as me and have healthy relationships with them. So I became the better man as my family taught me and walked away. I forgave but never forgot. Don’t get me wrong though, after a couple of days of it I said enough and stood my ground. And after I pushed back and stood up for myself they backed off and I became proud of myself for being strong and fighting back. I learned to not be the bully though even though I could have fought back more and more. I learned to be better than the bully’s that hurt me. And my other friends and even the girl that I was friends with they were all proud of me. That’s when I learned to stand up for myself, have confidence and go for what I want my dreams and nothing no one or thing will stop me from my goals.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a business owner just starting out. My name is Charles and I am a personal trainer / online fitness coach. I started working out when I was young playing sports like soccer then basketball, track and football as I got older. So I decided to take on personal training as a career path. I had friends that I worked out with and they said it would be a great fit even friends that wanted to be barbers, athletes, and some friends that wanted to be bodybuilders and enter into competitions, they all said I would be a great coach. So I wanted to help people and thought this would be a great fit for my Gifts and God’s timing worked out. I’m so glad I choose this career it’s amazing.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I would say that the biggest resource I used was YouTube they have certain topics that others can give you insight about and learn more as well as take notes on. I have taken classes and learned from others as well but on my own time during the 3 years I’ve been trying to build this, it helped tremendously. While doing that I cut off every bad habit told myself to turn into a millionaire like Dywane “The Rock” Johnson, Elon Musk, Jeff Bazos etc. I would have to change my habits my whole lifestyle to fit into theirs so I can transform and better myself. I started cutting out drinking, sleeping in, junk food, and laziness. I turned into this superhuman by meditation, reading success books, going to the gym, getting enough sleep, cutting TV time, made healthy meals for the week, I got my whole life together.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
The first thing that helped build my reputation was my social media accounts that I post on about health and fitness for my business. And the few videos that got a lot of views and likes were on my Instagram and you can follow me @hhmotivationn.
