Jay, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about how you got your first non-friend, non-family client. Paint the picture for us so we can feel the same excitement you felt on that day.
My first few clients were my little cousins. At every family function, I carried my cordless trimmers in my pockets. We would all go into a room where all the kids were, and I’d give all of them shape ups, one by one.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
When I was younger I hated going into a barbershop to get my haircut like most children. I cried and gave the barber a hard time every visit. During that time my mom just started cutting my hair herself so I wouldn’t have to feel uncomfortable at the barbershop. As I got older, I started going back to the barbershops with my dad and unlike most kids I did things a little different. At this time, I started to enjoy going to the barbershop, not just for a haircut per say, but to watch the barbers cut. I studied barbers and their movements. I studied movements from how they interact with the client, how they held and moved the clippers, all the way down to the steps they took for certain hairstyles.
So once I studied them I started practicing on my self to imitate what I was seeing. My mom bought me a pair of clippers and I used to practice on my older sister’s teddy bears. Of course she was mad at me for doing that, but she knew it was for a good cause. After awhile I upgraded to real people, and started cutting the hair of myself, my dad, my family, and friends. Of course a few of them were nervous for letting me cut their hair at the age I was but looking back on it, it helped me into becoming the barber I am today and for the ones that still come to me they appreciate the perfect and flawless services that they’re receiving now.
What I provide for my clients is a Grooming Experience rather than just a haircut. I offer full luxury and professional services. My basic services consist of the following:
-Haircut of your choice
-Shampoo and conditioning
-Razor
-Semi permanent/waterproof Color enhancementd
-Hot towel

How did you build your audience on social media?
When it comes to barbering, I just consistently posted everyday. I upgraded my equipment to where, my videos and pictures all came out with great professional quality.
When it comes down to tiktok, I just emulated certain content creators that were in my niche and then added my own twist to it. That kind of content is just what my audience wanted to see and it’s been working ever sense.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
– The support of my city
– Believing in God
– Social Media
– Keeping up with the trends within my industry
