Paige, appreciate you joining us today. Innovation comes in all shapes, sizes and across all industries, so we’d love to hear about something you’ve done that you feel was particularly innovative.
Opening the first coworking space with on-site childcare in Oklahoma, Bringing your kids to work is a new concept to my community but I know firsthand the struggle of working parents trying to balance work and family, I saw the need for our services, because I needed it two boys being a mother of 2 and entrepreneur.
Paige, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was working from home with my 2 children and trying to balance work and family, working from home became almost impossible. It’s hard to focus on designing websites with a 1 year old crawling on your back. In this time I was also providing childcare for other parents in need, My company Recess OKC solved all of our problems giving working parents a place to work and their children to play & learn.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I started Recess with no initial capital, loans, or grants, We are truly a family-owned and operated business, My mom, and my boyfriend pitched in and we have taken it one step at a time to make it happen.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
We opened our doors in November 2020 during the heat of covid and big businesses closing- it was scary and challenging but I knew the times would change and even in the heat of it all our services were needed as parents were navigating working remotely and trying to teach their schoo-age children in distant learning schools.
