Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jamice Bentley-Terry. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jamice , thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I took a risk with moving my business from a $250.00 a month rent payment to moving into a larger space, different vity, changing to a sole proprietor, and my rent increasing to almost 5 times it’s original rate. During this experience, it pushed me into an even deeper relationship with God(as you can imagine lol), because it’s definitely not an easy task. I’ve learned to trust the people that God has assigned to your life, with what He has designated them to help you with.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Jamice Terry, I’m a wife, mother, and a fashion and music lover.
Fashion has always been the thing that drew me in. I use to love to sketch dresses for prom, and different events, style looks and even homes, so starting my own business in the fashion industry was a no-brainer. I began styling a few friends here and there, and then a few more, until I started to get seen and pushed into e-commerce and eventually into a brick&mortar boutique, which was apart of the birth of Chic Culture Inc., formerly Commander In Chic. I provide styling services and unique clothing for both men and women at my downtown Macon boutique. At Chic Culture, we create stylish experiences and perspective into the music that is shaped by, and is our culture through fashion. When transitioning from Commander In Chic to Chic Culture, I knew that I wanted to merge my two loves together, music and style, because, in my opinion, you can’t have one without the other. Since rebranding, we’ve created numerous events that display our passion for the two, At The Wall, which is A Tiny Desk Series, several outdoor concerts, and our newest event that we partnered up with The Delete My Number Brand, ChicNiq.
We have major plans in the works to expand Chic Culture Inc. in this upcoming year. Chic Culture Inc. is For The Love of the Culture.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
My side hustle became my main source of income in March of 2021. I was a stylist initially and I’ve always had a love for fashion and all things beauty. So I started selling clothing and honing in on one of my goals which was to own my own clothing boutique. I stepped out on faith and in 2021 I left my full time job and made my part-time clothing boutique my full-time career realizing, that if I gave my boutique 100 percent of my time I would see the growth that I truly desired.

Have you ever had to pivot?
When I transition my business from one city to another and my Business Partnership dissolved or separated during the transition I had to change the name of my brand all together which was an established brand, and do a total re-brand. I‘m actually in the process of still doing my re-branding and it is not easy. Getting divorced from the brand that I have been with for over 7 years is a difficult, life- changing task. However, it is a new marriage, a new birth, if you will that can also be exciting when approached with an open and fresh perspective.
