We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tiffany Lewis, the founder of Cookies With Tiffany, a woman-owned, small-batch cookie company with a national footprint. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tiffany below.
Tiffany, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
The idea of Cookies with Tiffany came about during the pandemic when the world went into lockdown and “business as usual” quickly became a thing of the past. Jobs were lost, including my own, milestones were missed and, ever so quickly, every opportunity to simply meet a friend for coffee turned to a Zoom chat. I quickly realized what we all needed was a little bit of comfort and joy, which to me, came from the nostalgia of a cookie. From shipping cookies nationwide to delivering straight to someone’s doorsteps, individuals could still send a little bit of joy and “thinking of you” magic. With so many reasons to give cookies, such as “thank you,” “congrats,” “welcome, baby,” I am sorry,” and “just because,” we started receiving nationwide orders very quickly. As we like to say, “Every Day is a good Day for a Cookie,” which still rings true today!
The idea of taking this opportunity to start a cookie company also came from my time living in Ohio, a move I made during the middle of winter for a job transfer. My lonely weekends were filled with the aromas of freshly baked cookies, while my weekdays were spent sharing my creations to form connections and community at work. My first-hand experience of community formed through cookies is what made me leave corporate America for culinary school in the first place.
From my experience working for celebrity chefs in Los Angeles, I had extensive knowledge in R&D, media and food production, as well as food styling, which helped as I went into the kitchen to create my own signature line of recipes and cookies. My background in corporate marketing prior to Los Angeles helped with all of my marketing and branding efforts. My community of mentors at SCORE and family and friends were also instrumental in developing the rest of my business, including my business plan, financial statements, and understanding of the marketplace.
Tiffany, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We are a small-batch, woman-owned gourmet cookie producer based in Seattle, WA. We specialize in cookies that leave a lasting impression. From personalized notes and every box secured with a satin signature ribbon, we like to say that our cookies are refined but not fussy. Ingredients are locally sourced whenever possible, like our butter, eggs and toffee. Our offerings include a great combination of classics, like our Molasses and Chocolate Chip Cookies to our #1 best seller, the S’more Cookie. A few of my personal favorites are our popular Lemon Doodles and Crinkle Cookies. We offer catering, corporate gifting, wholesale, direct-to-consumer and ship nationwide! Our brick-and-mortar in the heart of Seattle’s Madrona neighborhood offers a wonderful way for people to engage with us.
