We were lucky to catch up with Lacroy Nixon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lacroy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
My name is Lacroy Nixon and I am from Williamsburg, VA. Over the last year, I’ve begun new endeavors, stepped out and started a poetry-based organization, and started a business for creative services. The process has been less than ideal, but satisfying. I have learned so much because I am not afraid to fail. But most of all, My success can be attributed to my love for God and my devotion to Jesus Christ. He is why I am able to take risks and not fear outcomes.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My Name is Lacroy Nixon. I was born in Charlotte, NC, and raised in Williamsburg, VA. In high school, I was a nationally ranked poet through the NAACP-ACTSO competition two years in a row. However, I officially started writing and performing spoken word/slam poetry in 2015 under the name “Atlas”. I am a member of the Poetry Society Of Virginia (PSVA), the American Poetry Society, an executive board member of the Writers Guild of Virginia, and the founder, and director of Slam Connection, and The Ex Nihilo Collective. I have been a poet for 7 years and have performed around the country as well as had work featured internationally. Three days after I graduated from Liberty University with a degree in graphic design, I published “God and His Humor”. The book features 6 chapters with over 40 poems and 20 different art pieces. I am also a part of Hope Booth. Hope booth is a 3-minute interactive immersive experience that combines art and technology to produce a message of hope. It debuted in London, UK in 2021, went on a 30-day 19-city tour in march 2022, and was featured on NBC News Now in September 2022.
