We were lucky to catch up with Breanna Jones recently and have shared our conversation below.
Breanna , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
If I was to relaunch Global Glamor I would have a strategic business plan and a mentor. I started doing makeup as a therapeutic passion that turned into a hustle. There was action but no plan. I would do makeup for any occasion (tv, special events, bridal etc.) and even though I would book clients I felt stagnant and confused. There was no sense of direction on how and what community I desired to serve, because there was not an overall strategy. Now that I have a business plan it gives me better clarity and confidence of what, why, and how I am to serve my community.
I would love to have a mentor for that support and guidance on how to achieve success in the beauty industry. Having a mentor would have potentially help me save money and time en regards to what decisions needed to be made to start and grow the business. Overall having a business plan and mentor helps you achieve goals more effective and efficiently.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I had to unlearn is operating as a beauty hustler to a business owner. Reprogramming my mindset from individual working to building a business model with a team to better help serve the community with products and services. I had to learn quickly that when only just hustling it limited the business growth and became exhausting. I wanted to avoid that creative burnout which led me to operating like a business. I was overwhelmed with booking clients, making skincare products, creating reels for social media, and bookkeeping that I was working more in the business rather than on the business. I created a formal business plan, sought mentors, took educational classes, collaborated with other professionals, and created systems to transition from hustle to business.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Yes, Global Glamor went from hustle to business or better yet a lifestyle. I started in high school playing in makeup as a therapeutic outlet posting images on Facebook that led to building local clientele. My artistry fed me and paid college tuition and even though there were moments where I did not know what I was doing I continue to serve being passion driven. I did not get into makeup because it was a trend or cool to do it just found me. Now I use makeup artistry as a platform to create my desired lifestyle, serve, and empower women through beauty. My business began to scale when I took more risks by saying no to other career opportunities that did not align with beauty and traveling across the world to collaborate with others to grow.
My biggest key milestone was moving from a very small town (Eulonia, GA) to Atlanta where there is more of a demand for beauty services. I did not have much money in fact I was broke college student that just had a vision to serve and do what I love. That leap of faith led to my artistry being viewed by millions on tv screens, social media platforms, runways, and pop ups.
I just wanted to see what will happen if I don’t give up on my passion and purpose. I’ve changed live with just passion, vision, and a brush in my hand with a plan to continue to do so.
