Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Zenobia Dyson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Zenobia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
In 2018, I was diagnosed with a skin condition called Central Centrifugal Cicatrical Alopecia (CCCA) which is a hair loss that is very common in African American women. My dermatologist had advised my hair loss would become aggressive and would continue to fall out until completely bald. There is no cure for alopecia! I started my hair journey with many injections to my scalp which was very painful without results. After a short period of depression I said “I refused to accept the physician’s answer to this disease. I researched about hair loss until I discovered this merciful plant called Aloe Vera. As I researched over the years I created a recipe that not only slowed down the hair loss drastically but it rejuvenated it, gave it life with many health benefits. I had to share this with everyone thus the passion to help with better skincare. The results were key. As I used my products and shared them with others the results was amazing. People turning away from chemical based products to all natural and organic haircare. If it worked for me I had hoped it worked for others. There was no guarantee but if they put in the effort one would obtain a favorable result. I stood by the users and made myself available day and night to answer questions, listen to their stories about their hair, scalp and skin. This was no an overnight progress but I came to the reality that this could be the start of something huge. No one on the market was approaching people in this manor so this blessed my spirit. If you want your hair to change in a big way then you must act in a big way!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have done many things such as becoming a Published Author, Christian Poet, Inspirational Speaker, Evangelist, Mother, wife, grandmother, volunteer worker, Television Talk Show Host of Spoken Colors Poetic Television, and Evangelism tours you name it. I look at my life as a calling to serve others. My services and products is just another way to build through a holistic approach. My products are made with love and each product is personal. If you have a vision write it down, then build on that vision and often times many will not understand the calling but all you need is a few to believe in the vision like its your own and then put wheels on it! Never wait, you have to move!
I am now a newly licensed Esthetician who has a passion for healthy hair, scalp, & skin. Since the age of 16 years young, I’ve always had an interest in hair and skin. I attended Blades Beauty school in Great Mills, MD in 1993 but did not complete the program due to being a teenage mother.
I believe it was in 2018 when I created my concoction of Aloe Vera and Manuka Honey Pre-Poo. I was promoting it on social media (Facebook & Instagram). Demonstrating how to cut the leaf, how to apply the concoction to the scalp and hair, sharing my results constantly on social media and I started to gain some inquires about the Pre-Poo. In November of 2019, I had my first sale of my product. It pushed me to continue to educate about the Aloe Vera, Avocado, Bananas, Manuka Honey and Organic Oils. Before you knew it people were buying my product! I researched many ingredients and they are so many organic ingredients that can help with hair growth. Diet also plays a major factor in hair loss which my doctor did not convey to me. I turned my pain, my suffering, my embarrassment into launching a hair care and skin care business. My family and I came up with the name “Get Juiced” for the business. I have sold over 150 products of the Pre-Poo. I have also created organic Aloe Vera & Manuka Honey shampoo and organic hair conditioner made with Greek Yogurt and Apple Cider Vinegar, this system is now called Nobility P.S.C. – Pre-Poo, Shampoo, & Conditioner.
You see moving and still working toward more. My clients and I connect right away before the service let’s chat about you, what you want the outcome to be and let’s work together as a unit. Each service is customized to the client, from the environment to smells and sounds. I want to bring out the natural beauty and then educate. Educating clients is key and these things sets me apart from others. I reconnect to check up on my clients and make myself available to answer questions, my consulations are free. I am most proud of overcoming… overcoming my own fears and the doubts of others. The source of my strength and my strong tower is Jesus Christ. As a client you have an opportunity to get away from it all, forget about the negative vibe and experience a positive vibe were one can relax, relate and be set free. The Royal treatment! Now we changed our business name to Royal Oasis Spa – Get Juiced Company.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The one thing I learned the hard way was obtaining bad information from instructors in Esthetics school and then acting on that information either from research or personal training. I had to unlearn information on how to perform services to infection control. I never had an issue with infection control because I have a Healthcare specialist on my team but I had to learn I must obtain my information from credible resources and other institutions in the field. Some information just didn’t seem right so I had to trust my gut feeling and challenge the information. I found that sometimes employees will hire a body without checking the back ground. A fast dollar is not a great dollar but it could be your last.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Oddly enough my my co-founder and business partner is my husband, Corey Dyson, Sr. This is a life story really; I have been married for 23 years and in a relationship for 35 years with this man who know my likes and dislikes. He has always encouraged every project that I wanted to give a try. I call him my “pusher”, the one who helps my dreams come a reality. I brought him into certain aspects of the business, his passion and dedication was bar-none and it only seemed right to have him as my business partner. He is hard but it helps with the balance so I can see another point of view. We are now learning and growing together. In church they call us the power couple.
