We recently connected with Bridgette Jones and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Bridgette , thanks for joining us today. Has Covid resulted in any major changes to your business model?
At the beginning of 2019, my business partner and I were prepared to start major movement in our beauty business, The Queendom Beauty Bar. We had recently purchased a bus, gained an investor, and found our contractor to move forward with the project, and then the unthinkable happened… COVID-19. COVID-19 halted the projected and caused us to lose our investor; however, instead of being defeated, my business partner and I pivoted to provide opportunities to not only our business, but other black and brown women owned beauty brands that were struggling. We created the Queendom Beauty Box to provide women of color access to experience beauty from the comfort of their homes. Our box is unique as it features black and brown women owned beauty brands from small businesses. We provide brands access to more consumers while also continuing to create buzz around our mobile beauty bus.

Bridgette , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a young girl, I have always loved fashion and beauty which led me on my career journey into becoming a Retail Manager. Starting as an associate and working my way into leadership, I took pride in making others feel confident through style and beauty, which led me into becoming a beauty entrepreneur! While working in the fashion industry, I noticed a lot of disparities and wanted to create change. The Queendom Beauty Bar, LLC is a beauty company that provides accessibility to beauty for all, whether it is from the comfort of your home with our beauty box or right outside of your doorstep with the beauty bus. We give every woman a luxury beauty experience! By working in my personal business and fulfilling my role as a full time Operations Manager for a top style agency in Dallas, I consistently work to ensure that fashion and beauty are inclusive to all women!
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I am so lucky to have my best friend, Valese Jones, as my business partner for The Queendom Beauty Bar. We met in middle school and have known since a young age that we wanted to create a business together. With her career in Public Relations and my career in Retail Management/Operations, we are a powerhouse in growing the business. We are aware of each other’s strengths and weaknesses which allows us to step in to the appropriate position without arrogance. We value the opinions and ideas of one another, which works well in a constantly revolving industry.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Fashion and beauty are always revolving, which means you have to stay on your toes with fresh ideas. As for my business, our concept is unique and convenient; however, COVID-19 truly drove us to expand into products in which we were not focused on nor interested in. Instead of continuing to finish construction on our beauty bus, we pivoted to creating our beauty box that represented black and brown women owned beauty brands and it truly has expanded our business. We are now able to capture the market from doing it yourself to having the services provided. We also helped other business grow in the pandemic which has been one of the top highlights of this entrepreneurial journey.
