We were lucky to catch up with Bailey Moman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bailey, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Royal B. The logo speaks just to how girls and royal I was feeling when this business was created. I was a rodeo queen at the time, holding my 5th or 6th title at the time. This was just an idea in the basement. A name to play on my royalty years, and the start of this business, doing custom royalty attire and sashes! I think back on it and often times, just wonder why I couldn’t have chosen something else. I am not a super girly individual, yet the pink and teal swirls with a glitzy crown scream girly to me. I truly believe, that the name was meant to be. So many years as a rodeo queen, in the light, speaking of a true passion to crowds, schools, and more. I think that being a rodeo queen helped push, encourage and enable our success as a business owner and a business.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Honesty. We all grew up hearing that – Honesty is the best policy. Yet it seems so many times in our adult lives, that it goes out the window. Everyone is going to make a mistake, including us, suppliers, decorators, shippers, clients. It’s not our goal to make a mistake, and I truly think it’s not what or how the mistake is made that matters, its how you handle that moving forward – with honesty. With the current pandemic, people are letting the excuse of the pandemic shadow weaknesses or short comings, instead of being honest. The world is not functioning as we knew it 2 years ago, nor really as we knew it 2 months ago, but the one thing we need to remain constant on is Honesty.
Just today, I had a client, whose brand is super picky on their coloring. We had to outsource a piece of their project, up against a deadline, the supplier did not match the color 100%. I reached out and talked to the client, and we came up with plan b. If I had not been honest about 1 – outsourcing that piece, or 2 – that the color was wrong. I would have lost this client, but instead, she says this is why I trust you, this is why I use you!
Honesty. Keep it in your pocket and don’t be afraid to show your cards. It truly is the best policy.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Management is not an easy feat, whether it’s a team of 1 or 100, this is something I try to learn on and grow as a manager on a daily basis. Being only 26 when I hired my first full time and salary employees, all of whom were older then I was, I found a struggle in being younger, as well as less experienced in the work force. I have learned over the years – inside and outside of my company – to remember to celebrate the moments, not just punish the negative times. I feel like the good times often get overlooked. Going back to my honesty policy, mistakes and shortcomings are going to happen on all accounts, we are human, but why do we always make the bad moments out weight the good? I have really began to push this on our team at Royal B. We didn’t take the time to name the clients of the week who called back happy and ecstatic, and now I have made it a point to let each employee know when that order went great, when the client called happy, and so on! Just in those comments, I have seen more smiles and more try from my employees then ever before. It’s hard to remember just how much stress people are under, us as a business owner (family life outside of work, and your employees – the pride in their job, keeping a job, family life. We need to remember to give them that pat on the back when they deserve it. You never know just how far that positive push may help that employee and in turn, help your entire team!
