We were lucky to catch up with Sapheria Emani recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sapheria , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
The biggest risk that I have taken, was the risk of putting myself out there for the world to see and get to know. I started Inspired Growth in 2018 with just a thought to help inspire people. I didn’t know what to expect but I knew that the basic step was being more open with who I am to strangers that I did not know. I took a risk on MYSELF. Starting an idea from scratch is not easy. You are taking a risk everyday as you are unsure if what you put out is good enough for people to gravitate too or not. I’m learning that while taking risks, you must detach yourself from the outcome and just do the work. You never know what is on the other side of fear if you don’t take that risk on yourself.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Inspired Growth by Sapheria Emani is a motivational brand that empowers individuals to overcome life’s many challenges that we all face daily. Through motivational speaking, workshop facilitation and mentoring, Inspired Growth promotes Peace, Love, and Prosperity while encouraging the ultimate goal of growth!
I originally came up with the idea of Inspired Growth when I graduated from college. Before then, I had a light bulb moment when I ran for homecoming queen my senior year of college. When I ran for Homecoming Queen, I realized that so many people looked up to me and/or admired me for just simply being who I am. I realized that people were also looking up to me for the encouragement I gave them along the way; weather it was encouragement by my actions or through verbal words. I then started to reflect on my contribution to my community and those around me. I finally realized that I could make a bigger impact.
At one point in life, I remember telling my mother that I did not believe I had a talent. Outside of excelling in school, I did not know my overall purpose. However, I have always managed to keep a positive outlook on life even when sometimes it did not present itself positively to me. Although my joyful perspective helped me battle through life challenges, I had no idea that my voice held volume.
After I discovered my talents, Inspired Growth started out at a quote page on Instagram. I posted original quotes every day from my personal journey. I then started to sell motivational t-shirts. Next, was blogging and vlogging. As my business was starting to progress, I wanted to do more for my community and encourage my peers in a different way. I organized a Black Business Expo. The expo was a huge success and drove me to want me to expand my talents more throughout my community. From the expo, I started facilitating motivational/developmental workshops for teenagers and young adults. In this, I found my calling.
Overall, Inspired Growth has grown from a mustard seed of a thought to something so beautiful. I am excited for Inspired Growth future! I am most proud of my consistent efforts into turning my dreams into reality.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I use to think when I have my own business that I will be able to make my own schedule, work on it whenever I please and still somehow be successful at it. I had to unlearn this way of thinking because when you have a business, you must put in the time that it needs to flourish. You must create a consent schedule for yourself and stick to it.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
You must do the GROUND WORK!!! ground work is meeting people in person, making genuine connections outside of social media. While growing a business, people want to know who you are and the best way to do that is getting out in the community, connecting with like minded individuals and simply not being afraid of who you are.
