We were lucky to catch up with Mont Mccloud recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mont , thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
So I have been making and putting out music since I was a junior in high school (2011). The main thing I wish I could change over the years is Consistency ! Over the years ill notice myself put out a bunch songs, or a consecutive visuals or even a mixtape or album. Then I find myself taking these long breaks could be months sometimes years before I put out content again. There has even been times where i caught a great buzz or a wave and still could not keep up. I caught myself letting my regular life get in the way of me.chasing my dreams.Looking back at my career I can only learn from these mistakes, and grow. I can say that 2022 was a pretty consistent year for me as far as dropping content.. In 2023 i plan to remain consistent and also. look forwarding to setting up some performances as well! working with Chante 2X has helped me one stay on top of things and also be more organized!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Mont, stage name Dollazwb For me music was always an escape or a way of expressing my thoughts/feelings/trauma more like a personal form of therapy. Listening to my music you will hear a lot of stories or things i have dealt with through course of my life good bad ugly I don’t sugar coat or hide anything, simply because i know there are people going thru similar stuff everyday ! I originally began making music in high school with some friends that later on passed away. Coming from a small town that no one makes it out of is a huge fuel to my fire, because i feel like i’m not only chasing this dream for me, my family, my friends that i’ve lost but also for my whole neighborhood!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The biggest reward to me as an artist is when people write me saying i touched them or they really feel a certain song or a bar. When people can relate to my music or be moved by it i feel like i’m accomplishing what i have always looked for in artist i like or listen to. Not saying all my music is depressing but more or less just real and raw. rather its uptempo fast or slower sound content wise i thrive off being real or genuine.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Im not fully in music business for financial gain, of course I want to provide for my family give them things i never had. My main Goal is to show people in my neighborhood, younger people in my family, any and everywhere that you can do something with your time here other then to run the streets 24/7 or even live the simple work n go home life. I jus feel like there so much to do in this world and set that bar high and raise it every time! Live your life to the fullest ! never doubt yourself and STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF! Be yourself in every room your in no matter who is in it and you will get further in life.
