Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to TDSG. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
TDSG, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
A meaningful project that I’ve been working on is Posh Life the Movie, dropping on December 9. This is my third project I’m releasing on all major platforms and my third full album. I feel like this project is a script to my life in a sense of understanding who TDSG is, not only as an artist, but as the evolving individual that I am. It’s the evolution of Tweeze the Swaggy God transforming into TDSG. This album is going to let people know exactly what I represent as an artist and what my brand represents as a whole. I really want people to feel inspired when they hear it. I want people to be on a positive frequency and feel a positive vibration. It’s about determination and having the motivation to go hard and get it right, having the mindset to keep going no matter what. I think this project is going to enable listeners to experience different moods and bring my audience a new kind of enlightenment.
When we look at the acronym PLTM (Posh Life the Movie), it basically spells platinum. I’m a big believer in acronyms and there is so much synchronicity behind it. When I put this album together, platinum was exactly how I felt about it. I feel like it’s a great body of work when you look at the diversity of songs from one to 12. It’s very different, but it has a cohesiveness that embodies a great piece of work. I dropped my last project, Spirit Animal, a while ago and I know people have been excited and waiting patiently for some new music so I thought there was no better way to end 2022 than with a statement. I really believe in my music, and not just its sound, but the team I have behind it. Anyone that I do a feature with is part of the Posh family. They are my people, people that I trust in this industry and for me, part of my career is about building a community and creating a family. That’s what Posh Life represents. We always work diligently to create the best body of work and I was so patient with this project. I didn’t rush the process. I just felt like when it was time, it would form as it should and now it’s time to fly. I’m truly excited for everyone to listen to it, especially under my new name TDSG, which stands for This Day Starts Good. Some will still know me as TweezDaSwaggyGod, but at the end of the day, it’s just me. I changed my name because I wanted to create a brand that was easy for my fans to represent and spread. I didn’t want it to be hard for them to tell a friend about and I had a little insecurity around this because my original name was long. It could be pretty overwhelming. But this all ties back to me just getting out of my own way and understanding that I don’t know everything and sometimes, it’s trial and error. So, we got TDSG and Posh Life The Movie to wrap the year and jump into 2023 strong. I also have a new collection of Posh Life merch dropping on my website shop. I’m really excited for the new designs as I’ve been working really hard on it and fashion is just a whole other side to me. I don’t like putting myself in a box, you know?

For folks who may have not read about you before, can you please tell our readers about yourself, how you got in the industry, and what sets you apart from the competition?
I’ve been in the music industry for 10 years and I have a solid track record, from my albums and music videos to singles. I’ve been able to learn so many things and pick up so many new skills as an artist. In the beginning, I was really only able to go to the studio and record music. I wrote my music and rapped. But now, I have my own studio to record and produce my music. When I reflect on the past 10 years, I realize how much I’ve grown and how long it took me to get to where I am today, but the journey was definitely worth it. I was able to learn so many things, not only about the industry, but about myself as an artist. I learned that I am more than a rapper and allowed myself to expand. I had to break my old mindset and really push myself so that I could build momentum and have longevity in the game.
When I think about what sets me apart from the competition, it always comes down to the fact that my music allows people to feel things that they didn’t think they could feel. If you really listen, like actually listen, there is always an encouraging message to be found in each track and I believe this will always have a positive impact on my listeners. Some of the music people listen to has a negative impact, but the music I bring always offers a sense of motivation and inspiration. As an artist, I don’t really curse or push negative messages/themes, which is often seen in this industry. I just like to have balance with my sound and while it’s still raw, it’s always authentic and genuine. That has been key for me.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson that I feel I had to unlearn was understanding that I don’t know it all, that there is always room to learn and grow. I used to have this mindset that I knew everything and no one could mess with me, but it never felt right. Rather than feeling like I had the answers to everything, I learned to maintain my confidence and keep my mind open to receiving new knowledge. I had to find a balance and hold myself accountable. It was about looking in the mirror and realizing that when things didn’t happen the way I wanted, there was no one to blame but myself. Everything in life is just an experience. Through every failure is a sense of enlightenment. I used to look at failure in a negative way, but now I look at it as a positive because there’s always a lesson to be learned. It’s just about understanding that at the end of the day, our reality is based upon what we make it and having this mindset brings me peace. It puts me in a space where I can stay motivated to continue to keep pushing forward.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think the most rewarding aspect about being an artist is being a great example for my son. The younger generation loves music and kids these days have this crazy pressure to be or look a certain way to be cool, to follow everyone else. I do look at myself as the cool dad, but I wanted to teach my son different. I wanted to show him that being an artist comes in many different forms and it’s important to just be yourself, to be genuine. My son looks up to me. Every day he tells me that he’s listening to my music and he’s watching my videos that come out. He’s watching everything. So, for me, it’s just making sure that I’m being the best example for him and not trying to be a square. I am trying to teach him what being an artist looks like and how you can have such a big imagination to create. I’m not just trying to inspire my fans and listeners; I am trying to inspire my son. I am trying to help and motivate people in the same way they did for me when I first started creating. That is truly rewarding.
