Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Madi Low. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Madi, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Starting out, I literally had no idea what I was doing with music. I just used to chop samples & put them together in my best 9th Wonder impression. Over time I learned via trial & error. But of course youtube university solved a lot of problems that I came across.
The main skill that I acquired through all of this is picking sounds that work well together. It might be my best skill.
The thing that could’ve sped up my learning process is learning music theory earlier. That was the integral piece to bringing everything together to where I am now.

Madi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into music via watching my family make music. I have family who rap, sing, dj, produce & more. It was only natural for me to follow suit.
So I got FL studio & started making beats. I linked up with some homies & we made a mini studio & started recording in my crib. The rest is history.
Overtime I started stacking skills and added photography into my skill set. First & foremost it was fun to do, but then I noticed it was something that people, specifically artists needed.
My goal overall is to push my limit & hopefully the limit of whoever I work with. Expand on ideas & do something I feel is creative.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I’d ask for everyone to share all the work that they love with everyone they meet. It doesn’t take much. “Hey listen to this song I heard the other day”. “Look at this painting I found”. A simple share goes a long way.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
There’s many motivations to why someone does what they do. They often change & morph over time. There’s no shame in that as well. But understanding that a creatives work is often self driven should be taken into account. It’s not always about the audience, but the creative themselves.
