We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Caitlin Tabilog a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Caitlin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To be successful it takes having a committed, ambitious, and passionate mindset while surrounding yourself with people who challenge and support you and are further along the road in their career or business to where you want to be someday. Most of the time success doesn’t happen overnight, so it takes perseverance, patience, and persistence to reach your goals. One of my favorite quotes is, “Nothing worth having comes easy,” which relates to the journey of becoming successful and why it’s worth pursing your goals.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My interest in portrait photography started when I was a senior in high school. My classmates were posting their senior portraits on Facebook and the more I kept seeing them on my newsfeed, the more I thought, “Wow, these are so pretty I want to take pretty portraits too!” I started photographing my friends, which led to getting jobs at local photography studios, and eventually opening up my own photography business. At Caitlin Tabilog Photography, we specialize in all types of portraiture such as headshots, model portfolio building, engagements, and family portraits. I love capturing candid moments, but I also have the skills and years of experience to direct people through posing. My work can be described as clean, vibrant, and natural. I’m a very easy going person to talk to, so photo shoots with me are fun and relaxed. Despite that, I still make sure that we capture everything you need during your session.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is making people happy with the photographs I capture of them and having the opportunity to meet and work with so many different types of people. It is always so fun getting to know someone new and having a great time laughing and smiling during a photo shoot.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Word of mouth and referrals has been the most effective strategy for growing my clientele and having consistent and increasing business throughout the years. I truly believe it takes one good or bad review to really make or break the growth of your business, which is why I strive to serve every client I work with excellent customer service and portraits. I am truly thankful for all of the positive reviews and referrals from every client, which has led me to where I am at in my career today.
