Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lesline Pittman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lesline, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission is to serve busy moms through yoga, breath work, and mindset coaching. When I first became a mom I found myself feeling overwhelmed with my kids, my husband, and myself. One day I found myself having suicidal thoughts and what’s even scarier is that I had thoughts of wanting to harm my 3 month old baby girl. It was in that moment I sought out a therapist and a few months after that I invested in a life coach. My life transformed. From this transformation of my own life I was on a mission to serve moms just like me. Specifically those moms who were not diagnosed with Postpartum Depression ( I was not, but I still needed help) but are still struggling. I feel like this community in particular, the moms on the cusp of being officially diagnosed with PPD are being left out and they think it is normal to feel overwhelmed. Part of my mission is to show moms that it is not normal to feel this way. You are valid with how you are feeling and it is time to seek professional help.
Lesline, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
By trade I am a Registered Nurse. Ever since I can remember I have wanted to serve people, make people feel better. Growing up in a Jamaican household there were limited options of how I could do that. My options were: nurse or teacher. So I chose nursing cause the pay looked good and I didn’t have to work 5 days a week! After working as a Registered Nurse across multiple healthcare settings in the Central Florida area I found myself experiencing burnout. I cried every day going to work and leaving work. And I remember questioning myself, “is this what my dream job is supposed to feel like”. I hated working in the hospital. However, while working in the hospital I saw my patients at their lowest point. Majority of my patients were suffering with chronic conditions such as high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. At this time in my career I had experience with type 2 diabetes because my mom was diagnosed when I was a teenager, so anytime I had a type 2 diabetic patient I had a soft spot for them because I thought of my mom. My mom fortunately has been off her diabetes medications for years because she made a decision to eat right and move her body regularly. I’m so proud of her. But it was not an easy road when she first was diagnosed. I remember her coming home from the hospital and having all of this diabetic equipment to check her sugar. I came down that morning and found my mom at the dining room table crying because she was frustrated. She was frustrated because she could not remember for the life of her what the doctor told her regarding how to use the diabetic equipment. I remember looking at her and feeling so helpless. I really wanted to help, but I was only 14 years old at the time I had no idea how to operate any of the equipment. So this is part of the reason I chose nursing once I graduated high school because I really wanted to support women like my mom. Fast forward 8 years later and I have transitioned to Utilization Management for an insurance company (this is what pays the bills for now), but my passion of serving now lies in Yoga and Mindset Coaching. As mentioned earlier, both therapy and life coach transformed my life. Both of these modalities gave me the life tools I needed to see that life can be enjoyable as a mom to 2 little ones. And this is how leslinedoeswellness was birthed, my 3rd baby, my wellness business serves busy moms through movement, breath work, and mindset coaching so they can be more present in their children’s lives.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I am still in the building phase of my audience on social media but it is steadily increasing daily! You have to be consistent. You cannot expect anyone to buy anything from you if they don’t know, like, and trust you. That’s it. That the secret sauce. This can be discouraging to a lot of people. I talk to plenty of my friends who do not like social media for multiple reasons, but I really believe it’s what you make it. It is also what you put into it. So you may have to unfollow some people (sorry mom! and auntie) you get my drift? You have to be laser focused on your why. If you are not focused on your why then social media will be draining.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
The one book I recommend for anyone is The Power of Awareness by Neville Goddard. I also love The Mountain is You by Briana Wiest. Both of these books have unlocked parts of my mind that I didn’t know existed. Both of these books also have helped me find my inner power and confidence.
