We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gabrielle Jameson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Gabrielle, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I’ve always summed up my mission into one phrase “Creating the Extraordinary out of the Ordinary” I can bring this all the way back to when I was a child and would take photos with my point-and-shoot camera and run to my parents to show them, they would always tell me I made something extraordinary. As I got older I realized how much joy it brought me to make others happy with my photos, so that’s what I made my mission for my future, to be able to take pictures of moments in life for people that they will be able to look back on and smile when they see it no matter how long it has been since the day the photo was taken.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Of course! My name is Gabrielle Jameson and I am a senior at SCAD pursuing a BFA in Photography (I bounce between commercial and documentary work) I am originally from the New Orleans area but have been working throughout the Southeast region for the past couple of years now. I initially became interested in photography to document others’ lives so they could have pictures to reflect on and get happiness from when they did so. As I developed more I found other interests like in the commercial and product world, I wasn’t upset by this in any way though as it allowed me to expand my skill set and experience into other genres of photography I hadn’t previously considered.
When I think about what sets me apart from others in my industry I like to think I bring a unique perspective into the conversation, instead of trying to design the subject into something I would enjoy I would rather learn about who or what I am photographing and try to showcase their own characteristics and let that be the focus of my photography.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
When it comes to resources in the photo industry, I found the most valuable to not be a book or a course online but the interactions and lessons that come from the industry professionals that have been in the game for much longer than me. By working with these people I have been able to gain insight in ways I never would have gotten from reading a book or taking an online course, they have been able to teach me techniques and mentality that I actively implement in my day-to-day work that I feel have truly helped me better myself as a photographer.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me the most rewarding aspect is the joy I can bring to clients through my work, seeing someone happy with the photos I took for them and knowing it is something they will be able to look back at 10 years later and feel that joy is what lets me go home feeling accomplished in my work.
