We recently connected with Heather Zade and have shared our conversation below.

Heather, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.

Well to start it is very safe to say that my whole life I had a passion for all things beauty. My second passion would be helping people and making them feel the best that they can feel. After high school I decided to pursue a career in nursing and I specifically chose to work in the field of pediatrics. While I did love helping children and their families I knew it wasn’t a career that I would be happy in long-term. I obtain my masters degree while working as a registered nurse in pediatrics and took a part-time job in the aesthetics industry. I immediately knew that this was my passion and I wanted to continue on this journey. Skip to a few years later and I had two young children and the hours required working for someone else at a Med spa were not going to work for me. I knew I wanted to stay home as much as I could to raise my kids the way I wanted to raise them so I quit the job I had at the med spa in order to stay home wand raise my children. I quickly realized I missed injecting and working in the aesthetic industry so I started my own small business offering Botox and fillers, working very off hours mainly some evenings and weekends when my husband was able to help with the children. I rented a small space at a wellness center and very quickly the business took off. This all happened during the height of Covid when most people were working from home and the world was in chaos. I knew I was taking a huge risk and that the business could very easily fail during that time. But the clients that I have are very loyal and I have developed good relationships and friendships with my clients and I believe that has helped a ton. At this point I am still in disbelief at what the business has become and I never in my life could have expected this. I just received an award as a top injector in the country and I’m happy to announce that I am opening my own medical spa in Clarksville Maryland. I think it’s important for everyone to hear stories such as this and continue to pursue your dreams even if they seem far out of reach.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Mainly now in my business the services that I continue to offer our Botox and fillers. I have developed my own lip filler technique which has become a sought after treatment by many. I love when patients come to me and have a part of their face that they just don’t love or think could be enhanced and we can work on a plan to achieve that for them. It is the best feeling for me when someone looks in the mirror after we are done with their treatment and they are so happy. It is seriously the best feeling. We do lots of Botox treatments on and off label. We work at preventing and improving fine lines and wrinkles and making the aging process as graceful as it can be. Many people don’t know that Botox can also help with some medical conditions such as migraines, hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating in the under arms palms and feet and it can also help with teeth grinding and clenching. I love the medical part of the industry because a lot of people don’t realize they can improve their quality of life with some of these treatments. I think what sets myself and our team apart from others is that we strive to achieve a very natural look. The goal is to really not look like you have had anything done. The biggest compliment is when a client comes back to us and says that they have received so many compliments on how they look and that they just look more awake and refreshed. I have also been very picky and selective in the hiring process because I want our clients to feel like they are walking into a very peaceful and fun environment. All of our staff is very friendly, very personable and our clients often walk out saying that they had fun at their appointment. My staff has become like a family to me and I think he will notice and appreciate that when you come to see us. I think it’s important for everyone to know that when you come in to see us we will come up with a plan that is specific to you. What works for one person will not work for someone else and everyone should have their own unique look that we can enhance.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

This is a hard question for me to answer and honestly a little bit uncomfortable as I never thought that I would a following or fans in life and I definitely did not think I would have a reputation in the aesthetic industry. Everything happened very fast and unexpectedly but I would like to think it has to do with my relationships with my staff and clients. I am genuinely interested in my clients, what they do for a living, what their life is like, what makes them happy and sad. Having two toddlers at home being at work is my social time. It honestly does not feel like work at all and many nights I leave work feeling like I just left a social event with my friends. I honestly love going to work talking to my clients and injecting of course.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

This is actually a very easy question to answer and my staff would probably laugh a little after reading this question.. Like I said before I never expected to have staff and be in charge of anyone. I have an extremely hard time saying no to anyone and I had to very quickly unlearn that. It was very hard at first but I have realized and running and managing a business there are many times that I have to say no to different people and I think it’s a good lesson for everyone in life to realize you can’t say yes to everything and you have to set your own boundaries because if you can’t make yourself happy you will not be able to grow in any part of your life.
