Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Luisell Perez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Luisell, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
My passion for skincare started when I was a teenager. When I became pregnant, I realized how hard it was to find childcare and work at the same time. As a stay-at-home mom, I decided to go to school and learn more about something that actually interests me. I was nervous at first but I thought if I could find a short-term profession, I can also get something out of it. I had the perfect game plan once I enrolled. I learned so much about skincare. I learned about different types of ingredients skin care products contains, also learning about different skin types helps me indicate adequate products specifically for my clientele. The reason why I chose my career path is because as an Esthetician I became my own boss. I can work, take care of my household, and expande my profession. The most rewarding part about my profession is seeing the change & results in my clients skin’s health. Being a full-time mom, working a full-time job(whether you’re young or an elderly) and not having a proper skin care routine can effect your skin‘s health and throughout time you’ll find yourself with dark circles under your eyes or hyperpigmentation from too much sun exposure. Hormonal changes reflect on your skin by showing dryness, acne, pimples, wrinkles, & even rosacea. Beauty Care recommends a skincare routine with the right products.
Luisell, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Luisell Perez. I am 24 years old and I love beauty. I spent most of my childhood watching my mom do hair at the clientele’s home and/or at the salon. From the early 2000’s I’ve seen how much the cosmetic industry has change. My adventure started when I became a stay at home mom. I realize how tough it was to find childcare and work at the same time. I decided to take a small course for skincare. It brought a lot of my attention because as a young mom I noticed my imperfections. Being a mom is just like working a full time job, there’s the under eye circle from lack of sleep, the acne from hormonal changes and let’s not forget the hyperpigmentation affect from stress and the excessive sun exposure! I learned so much about skincare I made a business plan for myself. After graduating, I found a job a nail salon & spa. It was a great experience, It taught me independence. After a while i decided to run my business on my own. I created my own menu, which was challenging because I had to make sure my prices were at a fair rate. I invested more in my business because I believed in change. The more effort you put into something the better results you’ll get.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Don’t let people tell you you cannot do something. A lot of people will doubt you which will make you doubt yourself and eventually fail.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
My business partner is Yashira Santiago. We met at a call center. We became really good friends at work and then we got fired. She went to cosmetology school and did a full specialty course. She’s really good at what she does. She’s a great hairstylist & makeup artist. Yashira faced a lot of great experiences herself. One day she came up with a Makeup/Skincare training course at her salon. As the skincare therapist, I showed the ladies how to properly wash their face and what skincare products to use. It’s important to keep your skin healthy especially if you use makeup. We see ourselves doing big things in the future.
