We were lucky to catch up with Andrew Henry recently and have shared our conversation below.
Andrew, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
A defining moment, when traveling through the jungles of Nepal, I realized on Elephant back that I truly wanted to help people as often and as much as I could. It was an ah ha moment as my camera bag fell from the top of the elephant onto the jungle floor, and the driver motioned for the elephant to pick up my camera back by it’s top loop, that I realized that it truly takes a village to achieve greatness. Here in the States, I see people by both online, and in person at at Riparian Area in Gilbert, Arizona. I am a listened professional counselor who enjoys meeting a person right where they at and developing goals to aid them in life.

Andrew, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I entered the arena of Counseling after being the the field of business, being somewhat successful, and longing for something more. I asked myself, what do I like about corporate sales, other than the up and down money, it was communicating with people. I took a Myers Briggs Personality Trait Inventory, and counseling seemed like a good fit. I fist became a parent aide at Southwest Human Development in Phoenix AZ, while attend Ottawa University for my Master’s in Professional Counseling.
I have since learned multiple modalities of counseling in the 20 years I have been in the field; EMDR, Hypnosis, Motivational Interviewing, CBT, DBT, NLP and Zen Buddhist Meditation.
I have created a protocol in EMDR called EMDR Quadmodal© that aids a person who has DID or Complex trauma, to stay within their window of tolerance to effectively and efficiently process horrific trauma and get past it.
I have also created a trance induction in Hypnosis for homework while attending an Intensive Advanced workshop held at the Milton H. Erickson Foundation in Phoenix, Arizona taught by Jeffery Zeig, PhD. The trance induction I created is called Soul Level Hypnosis. I have aided many people to reach within the depths of themselves to obtain latent gifts held within yet uncovered.
Recently, after moving my mother into assisted living, I found myself with a bit of extra time. I have since decided to enter and into a self-study of Sociological Political Law, Business Law, and Tort Law. I am studying at the Arizona State University online library system accessed via on-sight. While at Northern Arizona University at Flagstaff, Arizona, I took a class titled Business Law. Dr. Palmer stated then, I have decided to teach you all about AZ Tort Law. I found it fascinating, and it consumed all of my attention while in class; A grade. I put my love of the law on hold while learning counseling, and have resumed my interested in it now, part time, every weekday morning for one hour, and Wednesday’s all day.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Be yourself.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I was in high school, a college prep teacher reviewed my writing assignment for her class and told me that my writing was not up to par with college level writing, and it was implied not to even try to go. I looked at her, and said to myself, don’t believe you. I told myself “I did my best.” I since then went to college, and grad school, and now self studying law. ‘Opinions vary’ is a saying I have developed over time to not take what others say so gravely, nor seriously. I know that many mean well, and now being a counselor, I know that some project onto others trauma that was put upon them. I can’t say for certain that that HS teacher had the same thing happen to her, however if she where here now, I would offer her a kind look at whom I have become since then.
