We recently connected with Sydnee Heidt and have shared our conversation below.
Sydnee, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
Although I am a business woman I have several degrees. I think education is very important but it is honestly too expensive. I started creating hustles on the side so I could afford to pay for my student loans. When my side ventures began to take off I quit my PhD program while at the beginning of the dissertation phase because I did not want to rack another $20,000 to $40,000 in debt.
Sydnee, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Franchisee of THAT Burger Spot and part owner of the Riverdale, GA location. My partner and I are opening a second store Spring 2023 in the 45 Moreland Ave plaza. I am also a local Realtor in the Greater Atlanta area. Real estate is my baby. I am so passionate about it. I especially love assisting first time homebuyers as it brings me so much joy. We all may not care to own a business but ownership is for everyone! I like to educate people on equity and how we can pass property on to generations to come. My instagram is @sydneesellsatlanta
In the future I would like to start a non-profit in regards to financial literacy. Before I worked for myself I worked in finance as well as made a lot of mistakes that were costly. The best teachers are past mistakes!
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
All of my businesses were self funded initially as I keep my full time job as a Budget Manager to do so. Once I received my Real Estate license I used the money I made off of sells as long as the money my partner had to invest into the franchise location.
Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
When we first opened the restaurant we were swimming in debt. I remember having to transfer funds from my personal account the first week or so. To dig ourselves out of this hole we (my partner and I) did not pay ourselves for the first 5 1/2 months in order to pay off the debts owed to be able to be profitable.
