Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kapri Ridley. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Kapri thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
There are so many avenues to becoming successful, but if you are not PASSIONATE about what you’re doing, you will fall short. Since starting my business I have learned that it’s not about the degree that you have earned or the amount of experiences that you have had that will put you on the path to being successful, rather it’s the passion that you have that will get you to where you need to be. Before launching my business I had the mindset that no degree = no experience and no experience = zero opportunity. It wasn’t even a thought that I could actually be an interior designer, but passion slowly lead me in the direction of becoming a designer without even realizing it. Because I was passionate, I continued to learn and grow in a way that I never would’ve otherwise.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I love all things home decor! I have a passion and drive when it comes to interior design and home aesthetics. As a young girl, I would spend my days decorating and reorganizing my room for fun. Little did I know that one day this passion would take me on the most exciting journey in my life!
I was born and raised in Utah on the Cache/Box Elder County border. Besides my passion for interior organizing, visualizing, and decorating, I spent the majority of my childhood and part of adulthood dancing. If I wasn’t at school, I was at the dance studio. I attended Utah State University in 2009 and graduated with my bachelor’s degree in 2013. My degree was taking me on a path to become a therapist, but that all changed when I got married in 2015. Not long after, we started our own family and now have three beautiful children, Harper, Aiden and Ever. My husband currently works in residential construction and is my number one supporter and right-hand man within my business.
My passion and love for interior design started to resurface when we purchased our first home back in 2018. Soon after, I launched my own business in interior decorating, where I mainly focused on refreshing homes and making clients feel better about their living spaces. It wasn’t long until passion lead me from decorating to designing. I spent many days/nights learning programs, writing up documents, and coming up with a business model that I have been so proud of since. Since launching my business in interior design, I have loved looking back at where I started, baffled at where I am now, and so excited to see what the future holds.
My business currently assists those looking to build/remodel their home. I offer a variety or services, including 3D renderings, eDesign, design boards, layout designs, styling, and organizing. One thing I especially love about my services is that I offer 3D renderings. 3D renderings give you a 3D view of your space and 2D photorealistic images of my designs. This service saves so much time, money and headache/fear when heading into the construction phase.
The building process is such an exciting journey, but the excitement tends to be overshadowed by stress and overwhelming feelings. With hiring me as your designer, you can remove those negative feelings and just enjoy the process of building/remodeling your home.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
When I first launched my business I know I had a lot of skepticism around what I was actually doing and whether it was going to be successful or not. To be honest, I was a bit skeptic myself, but I knew that if I was really passionate about it and I just kept learning and pursuing, then nothing could stop me. It took me a lot to prove myself and show people that raw talent and passion can outweigh any degree and/or experience. To this day, I still feel like I am trying to prove myself, but over the years I have slowly noticed people taking me more seriously not because I have a degree but because I have continued to stay consistent, continued to show up even when it got hard, and continued to do what it takes to show my talent, even if that meant doing things for free. It has been a lot harder and slower path to gain trust than it would’ve been had I graduated with a degree in interior design and been working for a firm for 4+ years, but that didn’t stop me, nor should it stop you. I love that I can be my own designer now and not follow suite with what everyone else does, with that I am unique.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The average person spends more than 50% of their time in their homes. If I am going to invest in something, it is going to be in my home – it is the one place that you can put money towards that will benefit you now as well as in the future. I want to help you invest in your home in a way that you may not know how to do on your own by creating a space that is safe and you can feel connected to. With this desire to have my own house be more than just a house, my business has been driven by the mission to “make your space, your home” and I won’t give up until I know that has been achieved.
