Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Letia Wyatt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Letia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
My hope is that I build a legacy that speaks to the beautifulness of the world. One that shows there are no limits and success is always attainable while treating everyone fairly and with kindness.
I would love to be remembered for my joyous yet practical nature. I am continually working on being a better version of myself while enjoying life. I want others to remember me as one who went after what she wanted and did it her way.
I hope my legacy will be one of perseverance and persistence.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the area of higher education after realizing life was much better on a college campus. Lol!
The students have always kept me young and abreast of trends in their respective majors or in whatever their culture is. Working with college/university students inspired my decision to go back to school to pursue my Doctoral degree which I am in the process of completing now.
This also led me to create my brand, The Coco Student, which focused on my doctoral journey as well as my journey of becoming a children’s book author. I wanted to take the journey of a black woman higher education professional and let others see the highs and lows of being in the doctoral program while also working on my passion: these colorful and thoughtful children’s books.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would have a passion for writing children’s books but I’ve come too learn that life will take you some unexpected places if you trust God and let him guide you. My choice to write poetry at a young age then short stories, led me here. Children’s books was a way to marry my love for color and graphics with my passion for just getting the words from my head to paper.
All of my choices with this business have been purposeful in some way. My goal has always been to inspire, educate and transform,
With the Coco Student, I plan to do so.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Wow! I am currently living this very question. I recently became a mother to an almost 1 month old (by the time you read this he will be over a month) named Wess. Honey when I tell you motherhood at any age is a challenging blessing but at the age of 36 it is one that comes with a little spice sprinkled on top! Being pregnant in 2022 while starting a new job in February of this year caused me to make a shift. Shift my focus, my way of thinking and plans for my life. So I began working and preparing to bring forth new life and in the midst created a new life of my own.
My focus went away from The Coco Student and went into overdrive with work and school. So much so that I began a new job in an awesome space with amazing people in August. God most certainly orchestrated these events in my life and I do not take that lightly. The type of support my family and I have received over this year has been unmatched and we are grateful.
So now, I am here with a new purpose for The Coco Student. Still with the same concepts but not letting society dictate what to post, how to feel, and most importantly control my investments/accomplishments.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
For me, I rely heavily on word of mouth and people reaching out to me.
I’ve been blessed to meet so many gifted, talented, curious and inquisitive souls that once they hear I’m an author, they ask for the Amazon link to purchase my books.
People make the world go round and that’s how I’ve always gotten whatever thought, product or opinion out into the world: through connections with people.
I cherish everyone who has purchased books from me or even informed others about what I’ve done. This journey has been one for the books!
