Alright, Dr. Tavara thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My desire has always been to equip individuals. As I’ve evolved over the years, so has my area of interest but my mission has remained the same, which is to equip others. I’m currently training, coaching and equipping leaders (new, aspiring, emerging as well as current supervisors and managers) in organizations. Looking throughout the scope of leadership, I realize that many may have talent, but lack the necessary skillsets and tools as it relates to building relationships, effective communication, emotional intelligence, ethics. professionalism and so much more. As such, this has pushed me to make a difference within leadership so leaders can effectively lead in the areas they are assigned to.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
There are many attributes that I believed have assisted with building my reputation. Being consistent and functioning in excellence has definitely helped. It’s important that one remains consistent in their actions when interacting with others or operating in their niche. Many make the mistake of being in one niche today and being in another within the same year. However, I do believe one can or should expand within their niche as long as the original mission stays at the forefront. Excellence is a quality that one should strive for. I believe in providing the type of value or service to others in excellence that I would like to have reciprocated.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Effectively managing teams is crucial to the success of any organization or team. Leaders must ensure that they are present when managing teams. Here are six (6) tips for managing and maintaining high morale amongst your team members.
1. Set clear goals and expectations – the lack of clarity leads to confusion among team members and what is expected of them. As a leader, take the guesswork out of the process.
2. Delegate – when delegating ensure you give team members the necessary authority that goes with the task/role. Proving a role without the authority to succeed in the role is counterproductive to the development of a team member. Also, do not delegate tasks that are trivial that can be seen as mundane.
3. Effectively manage conflict – always obtain the facts before addressing conflict but do not wait until tensions escalate before addressing important matters. Always determine what requires immediate attention and what can take a while longer. Always communicate to team members using time frames of when issues will be handled. While addressing conflict ensure fairness, consistency and transparency.
4. Communication is key – ensure that team members are kept updated especially with pertinent information that will affect their productivity and efficiency.
5. Maintain a positive working environment – no one desires to be uncomfortable or uneasy while at work. Be sure to find out how team members are doing as well as progressing in their work. Having an open door policy makes it easier for team members to approach you with any issues or concerns they may have. Also, chaotic work environments lead to increased employee turnover, decreased productivity, lack of creativity and so much more.
6. Provide feedback – always provide feedback within a timely manner. Positive feedback should be done openly and negative feedback should be done in private.
