Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Danaee Schrock. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Danaee, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Charmed. has been a dream of mine for years now. I wants Charmed. to be a quaint, charismatic and friendly neighborhood restaurant that is known for its exceptional service, full-flavored food, and welcoming vibe. At Charmed. everything is ruled by taste, and the goal is to make extraordinary food that tastes good from start to finish.
The love of food is not a new concept in our household (Charmed is owned by my sister Donna and myself). Having grown up in a Mennonite home, we were taught to love all things food. Our mom taught us the valuable life lessons of how to make amazing food from scratch, how to host fantastic parties, that nearly anyone can be made happy by being fed, and that anything can be made better by adding a little bit more butter.
The goal for Charmed. is to be a place where the atmosphere is full of delicious aromas, friendly chatter, and hearty appetites. We never want you to leave without feeling happy, content, and already planning your next visit.
We love food. We love creating food, eating food, and making people happy with food. We want to bring that to Charmed. and create a sense of home, comfort, and charm!
Our idea is to create, produce, and serve delicious, full-flavored food and establish Charmed. as a favorite local restaurant.

Danaee, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
The food industry is pretty much all I know. I grew up with my mom being the most amazing cook and baker. She started her own restaurant when I was 11 and I grew up in the bakery helping her. After I graduated from high school, I got a job as a line chef at a local restaurant. There, the chef took me under his wing and taught me everything that he knew about food, fine dining, and owning a restaurant. From there it was culinary school, working in restaurants as a chef… and then moving on to business school and managing restaurants. After several years of that, the next step simply taking the leap and opening Charmed.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
My business partner is my sister Donna. She also worked in our moms bakery and cafe growing up but then went to nursing school. After moving to Baltimore to work in Johns Hopkins ER for 12 years, she needed a break from the burn out, therefore, helping me open Charmed.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Our mom taught us hospitality at a young age. She taught us how to host fabulous parties with all kinds of food and decoration. Donna and I have taken that talent and creativity and moved it into a restaurant setting. From remembering our customers names, to their daily problems and lives… we stand out as a place with service that seems like coming home to a family member or friend.
