We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kofi Buabeng. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kofi below.
Kofi, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
The idea for Odo Natural Skin & Body Care started with a passion to help others. My family has always used shea butter for skin care since I was a child and it has provided us the benefits of soften hydrated skin. Shea butter also contains quite a few antioxidants, including vitamins A and E. Our goal is to share our unique shea butter products with the world to help others stay moisturized. Our mission started when we visited our homeland Ghana and partnered with local women shea butter producers in the northern region of Ghana. Our purpose was not just to produce a product but to also partner with women entrepreneurs in less fortunate countries and support their business. Every purchase of our products supports our goal of empowering and reinvesting into under privileged communities in Africa.

Kofi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
The name says it all! The meaning of ODO is love. Odo Natural Skin & Body Care has released new products to enhance your morning routine. The Organic Whipped Shea Butter comes in the original scent and two variance of
“Pineapple Mango Oil” as well as “Creamy Coconut Oil. The company’s foundation is based on embracing self love and
wellness. They believe that the best body care derives from nature and all of our ingredients are from the earth.
Healthy body care is essential for everyday living and our goal is to provide products that cultivate and care for your
skin and body.” Odo Natural uses 100% raw organic shea butter and added natural oil blends that will refresh your
skin and body. The company works with local women shea butter producers in the northern region of Ghana (Fair Trade Shea Butter). Every purchase supports their goal of empowering and reinvesting into communities in Africa.
The company also offers their authentic Exfoliating Bath Sponge (Sapor) which is imported from the region of West
Africa Ghana. The sponges lathers quickly and exfoliates, rinses easily, dries quickly and can be used the same way
you use your washcloth. The sponge last for years and come in variety of colors.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Our connection with the women partners has really changed the focus of our business. We realized that shea butter has the ability to change lives of many families by alleviating poverty and providing women with an well earned income to meet the needs of their family. More than 16 million African women make a living picking Shea nuts and processing Shea butter. The stories of our women partners really drove our resilience to continue and build our brand despite challenges in the recent economy. Traditionally, female workers harvest shea nuts, before they are processed, packaged, and exported or sold at local markets. Shea butter is sold to raise funds to cater for food, utility bills, payments of school fees, and health facilities with the intention to improve upon the welfare of their families.
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
We work with local women shea butter producers in the northern region of Ghana. (Fair Trade Shea Butter) “Every purchase supports our goal of empowering and reinvesting into communities in Africa”. Since the 14th century, women have been working together to collect the fallen nuts of the Karite tree and laboriously transform them into the silken, nourishing and versatile creamy substance known as Shea butter. After meeting with local women and shea butter producers, we realized the true value of the shea tree: a tree with the power to enrich not only the skin but also the lives of less fortunate women in rural communities across northern Ghana who are doing business to make ends meet. Our goal is direct trade with women shea producers which removes the middlemen, placing revenue in the hands of the women who have earned it.
