Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Seneca Clark. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Seneca thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
I remember when I came home from college. I was confused as to what I wanted to do. So I decided to go back to school for nursing. My mother already being a nurse sat me down and said you really don’t want to do this do you? Are you doing this to make me proud or do you really have a passion for nursing? I sat there a second and told her I didn’t know what I want. I also let her know yes I was doing it to make her proud. She told me: You’ve already made me proud. She said what does Seneca Love? What makes Seneca the happiest? What is something Seneca doesn’t mind doing for free and it make her insides smile. I waiting a few weeks to answer. I told her hair makes me the happiest. I told her it makes me feel very accomplished. She stated then that’s what you should pursue. So it started there. Back in 2006 my pursuit to happiness.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Well my name is Seneca Clark. I’m 38 years young. I’m a Master Cosmetologist and MUA. I’ve been in and around the industry my entire life. But licensed for 13 years. I was introduced into the industry by my God Mother Trusa of Miami Fl. She did my hair up until my mother moved us back to Ga when I was 15/16 years old. Watching her every other day pushed me to start practicing on my friends in my neighborhood. I would be excited to show her the work I did throughout the week. She would have me shampooing hair and preparing her clients for the next step. I would watch her hands, product proportions everything. And go home and try them out. I enjoyed how she communicated with her clients. Back then it was a dream. I never even imagined that my once dream would be my reality. The good bad and ugly. It’s truly my passion to show people true beauty through my artistry. Wow. Kinda mind blowing. I never seen my life going in this direction.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Now this is a tough one for me. I will never forget August 1st 2006 4:30pm. That’s the date and time my life, my world fell apart. That was the day I lost my biggest Cheerleader. My mom. I had to make the decision to either: 1. Allow life to kick me butt. Or. 2. Give life a run for its money. So here I am. Still fighting. I took some losses. But I’ve also won a lot. My losses were lessons, that later turned into blessings.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I jumped start my social media platform by posting live videos of me doing my own makeup and hair online. I continued to post sometimes twice a day. Which gain the attention of women in my community. Then I started gaining followers from other states and a few other countries as well. Which was really cool. The advice I have for anyone who’s just starting or wants to start having their presence known on social media is: what are you waiting on? Start!!! It’s room for you as well.
