We were lucky to catch up with Brittany Wiggins recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brittany, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
2018 changes my life completely I lost my mom I was lost, confused, and hurt. My mom was backbone. I was only 28yrs old and a single mom of a beautiful baby girl I just I have to find a way to provide for us. I was currently working at Sentara been for 5yrs and going to school at NSU to become a Registered Nurse. The support from my mom helped me to further my education. However April 12, 2018 she passed away at home I was able to hug her for the last time. Right then I knew my life was going to be hard during the time my mom was in the hospital my manager at Sentara was giving me a hard time because I would either leave work or call out due to my mom being hospitalized and my daughter was also hospitalized due to having severe seizures but I was still showing up to work because I was afraid of loosing my job she gave me the hardest time I will never forget just pure evil but I never reacted I know I would’ve snapped out after laying my mom to rest I returned back to work a week later bills was still coming still had to finish the end of my semester at NSU I told my coworker I wanted to open a home care agency and I asked her could she take care of my patients while I research on the computer I wrote down 10 names and told her to choose one and she chose Brighter Days Home Care so now I’m like what’s next it was becoming very overwhelming 2012-2014 I was working with Stephanie at a CNA I found her on fb and reached out to her and told her my plan we schedule a meeting she gave me a price all I had was $1,200 in my savings account I didn’t care about no bills due I knew this was my chance so I made a sacrifice to use the money to get the process started I always had a passion for helping others I’ve been a CNA since 2012. God connected me to Stephanie at the right time she was my angel for sure she set me up for success guided me through the entire licensure process she gave me the knowledge, tools, and resources to become a successful home care owner my first year was rough I really didn’t have the funds to fund my business and was still working at Sentara overnight I would get off work at 6am get my daughter situated and be out in the community networking all day literally no time for sleep I was determined I was also working overtime to pay my employees I had to give up my entire tax return to pay my employees I hit rock bottom but I knew it will get better so I kept going no matter how many L’s I took my second year in business I started growing tremendously everything was falling into place my pay roll was on the right track I was very thankful as I’m focused and building my business I didn’t realized how much I inspired others I started helping others open a home care agency, teaching classes, I assisted over 20+ people in VA to open a home care agency and everyone is licensed my 3rd year in business my business made a million dollars I was very proud seeing my hard work pay off Now that I’m going into my 4th year of business I decided to branch off and open a group home so now my main focus is building my group home so that it can be successful as my home care agency. The most important thing is to always keep God first, don’t be afraid to take that risk or leap of faith
Brittany, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Staying organized is very important and help me remain successful with my business including chart auditing, keeping up with employees time, and daily tasks
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I had to put in a lot of work. Everyday I would visit a senior community and host bingo bring my business cards and brochures to let all of the residents know about the services I offer at Brighter Days Home Care I would go into Walmart parking lots and pass out flyers. Post a lot of Fb
