Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Linda Goodwin-Nichols. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Linda, appreciate you joining us today. Please tell us about starting your own firm and if you’d do anything different knowing what you know now.
We moved to Kissimmee in 1972 and opened our real estate office in early 1973…timing was not the best, as the day the office opened the market tanked in Osceola County. .It was tough the first year with no sales in 1973, interest rates were up and down, periods of low inventory, we had market booms and market crashes, along with gas crisis. Those experiences impressed upon us the need to be a stable resource for clients no matter what else is happening in the world.
A small office was leased in an office building that my in-laws had built, which held only the second elevator in Kissimmee. This building had been sold to an investor out of south Florida. The new owner came into our office to introduce himself, at the end of that meeting he asked if we would manage the office building for him. I was excited to have our first client (even though I knew nothing about office leasing) and that was the beginning of a very long successful partnership. My family decided since we did not have steady income, we would do the janitorial services, and he also provided us an office rent free. So, we were on our way…It was a rough start learning as you go and getting involved in our new community.
This company was built on giving back to our community, which has been our foundation for almost 5 decades. We truly believe you only get out of your community what you are willing to put into it. There is nothing about our first years in the real estate business I would change, the first couple tough years gave me the ability to adapt to new real estate markets through the decades. This is truly a family business with my two daughters being brokers and working beside me for over 30 years… We are blessed.
This family-owned boutique agency never wanted to be the biggest real estate office, but we always strive to the best.
We are a big believer in professional ethics, sound planning and persuasive strategies, along with a strong company support system to help our agents and their clients. Our are motto has always been “Trust our reputation and count on our character.”
I truly believe that any new agents coming into this profession, needs patience and perseverance to succeed, along with love of your community… This business can never be a job always must be your passion.
Linda , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I am a big believer in professional ethics, sound planning and persuasive strategies, and strong company support system.
operating this business following the Golden Rule has certainly been the basics for what we deliver to our clients and customers. Customer Service and Service to our community has helped build our reputation, this is the reason we use the following as our motto….” Trust our reputation and count on our character”.
I truly believe that you only get out of your community what you are willing to put back into it.
