We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Palmer Lee a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Palmer, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I was working in a completely different field before Assisted Lymphatic Therapy. I was a full-time songwriter in Nashville, TN prior. Studying music in college, I had always planned on music being my exclusive career in life. It wasn’t until the summer of 2019 that I decided I wanted to shift things.
I began to wonder if there were other things I could be good at or things I would like to do. Someone close to me had been in chronic pain for quite some time, and I realized I really enjoyed working hands-on to help people heal. It was then that I discovered Assisted Lymphatic Therapy, and it took off from there.
Leaving a career in something I had worked towards my entire life was not easy. However, something inside of me pulled me toward the holistic health world, and I had to follow it. It has been an incredible blessing to meet clients and be part of their health journeys. I’ve seen people start to heal when they thought they never could. I’ve gotten to know some of my clients deeply, and understand the ways many people are suffering. I had no idea how many people were going through difficult health problems and how dangerous inflammation could be. I’ve been very grateful for the risk I took in leaving a career to follow that nudge that helped me get where I am today.
To my surprise, music opportunities have continued to follow me, so I did not have to leave it completely. I feel very grateful for the balance of doing things I love every day and getting to help people along their paths.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
To put it simply, I can help people with inflammation. Inflammation is the basis of most chronic illnesses and can cause a lot of problems for our bodies. I use a machine that helps stimulate our lymphatic vessels to push lymphatic fluid where it needs to go. In doing that, our bodies naturally flush out toxins, bacteria, viruses, and pathogens that can make us sick, leaving the healthy fluid in our bodies.
Sessions are about an hour long and similar to a massage, but instead of using my hands, I use the transmission heads of a machine. Sessions are light-touch, painless, and surprisingly relaxing. During the session, we work on the whole body.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think one of the biggest ways people have found ALT is through social media. It is a brand new modality, so having videos, pictures, and other information online has helped people understand what it is and how it can help them.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I started my Assisted Lymphatic Therapy business in February 2020. Brand new to the wellness world, I was just beginning to learn the ropes when Nashville got hit by a bad tornado in early March. Our building lost power for a week. Just when I was getting back and trying to gain more clients, most people in the workforce started to stay home due to Covid. I came back to work in late May of 2020, a few months after I was supposed to have already started getting to a good spot with the business. People were hesitant to come in, and it seemed like everyone had a different take on protocols and what they felt comfortable with. It was probably the worst time to start a business, but no one knew it at the time. I had to stick it out and work extra hard to build a client base and help people understand what ALT is. Almost three years later, I feel very grateful to have this business and everyone it has helped so far.
